other respiratory diseases will be
distributed to members of clubs
and organizations in Greenwood
and Laurens Counties. Mr. Bre
land serves chairman of the
speakers bureau of the Tubercu
losis and Health Association.
The brochure, entitled “Eradi
cation of Tuberculosis and Con
trol of Other Respiratory Dis
eases ”, was compiled by Mrs.

Mr. Breland commented that
local figures point up that tube-
culosis is still a problem with 155
known cases in Greenwood and
Laurens Counties in 1962.
Only 60% of the tuberculosis
cases in South Carolina were un
der medical supervision at the
end of 1962. Also many people are
sick with TB without even know
ing it because often there are no
early symptoms.
These figures stress the fact
that individuals can be exposed
to tuberculosis daily without
knowing it. The pamphlet sug
gests three necessary steps to
eradicate tuberculosis and con
trol other breathing difficulties:
1. Have medical checkup in
cluding tuberculin test or chest
X-ray. Don’t neglect chronic
cough or shortness of breath.
See your doctor.
2. Encourage family and
friends to do this, too.
3. Insure better health for the
future by encouraging young peo-

Jasper W. Fowler
Laurens — Jasper Washington
Fowler, 75, of 23 Watts Ave.,
died early last Wednesday mor
ning at a local hospital after
several years of declining
health and four days of illness.
He was a native of Del Rio,
Tenn., son of the late Charles
and Martha Lunsford Fowler.
He was a veteran of World War
I, having served in the Army.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Ellen Cogdill Fowler; a daugh
ter, Mrs. Hugh B. Jones of
Laurens; two sons, James H.
and Frank Fowler of Laurens;
two brothers, Emit and Roy
Fowler of Laurens; two sisters,
Mrs. Flqyd Pinson and Mrs. E.
R. Reeves of Laurens; and a
grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted Thursday at 3:00 p. m.
at the Kennedy Mortuary by
Rev. William H. Jeffords, Jr.
Rev. Ray Craine,- and Rev. J.
C. Sorrow. Burial was in Forest
Lawn cemetery.
