Mrs. Hugh Ballard and Miss J* Peggy Ballard spent Friday in Greenville where Miss Ballard had her check-up at the General hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glenn, Keith and Deidra Glenn of dreen- ville, were Sunday supper guests of Mrs. Glenn’s mother, Mrs. J. H. Seay, and Miss Feroline Seay. Mr. and Mrs. Jack White, Misses Linda and Martha White and Miss Ttoni Harvey spent Sunday in Gaffney with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd White, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd White. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kelly and children of Gaffney, spent Sun day with Mr. and Mrs. Ike Jones. Mrs. Joel McElhannon of Junction City, Kansas, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Blackwell. On Sunday she, with her mother and brothers, Ernest, Jr., and Rickey, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cook visited Mr. Blackwell, who is a patient at the Veterans hospital in Co lumbia. WOMAN’S CLUB VIEWS CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS The Lydia Woman’s Club met on Thursday evening for the regular monthly session, with the president, Mrs. Keith McGee, presiding. The devotional was given by Mrs. D. H. Roberts. During the business session plans were made for the Hallo ween Carnival to be October 31 at Providence School. Also the annual men’s night banquet in November was discussed with plans to be announced later. Mrs. D. O. Freeman and Mrs. Billy Snelgrove of Clinton, were guests. They had brought several Christmas decorations which they showed and explained the making of them. Miss Nellie Os borne also demonstrated the making of several arrangements, and showed others already made. Coffee, cake and nuts were served. The hostesses were Miss Osborne, Mrs. Ralph Riddle, Mrs. Clyde Trammell and Mrs. David Word, assisted in serving the ladies. REVIVAL PREPARATION PRATER MEETINGS Prayer meetings will be held at the Lydia Baptsit Church at 7:30 p. m. tonight, Friday »nH Saturday evenings with a differ ent speaker each evening. Speak ing tonight (Thursday) will be Rev. J. H. Darr, Friday evening, Rev. Billy Harris will speak, and Saturday evening Rev. J. B. Ab ercrombie. The public is invited to attend these prayer meetings. WMU GENERAY MEETING TUESDAY The Lydia Baptist Church Woman’s Missionary Union will meet Tuesday evening at the church for the regular monthly general session. All members are urged to attend. MRS. HARVEY HONORED A lovely pink and blue shower was given for Mrs. Charles Har vey on Tuesday evening of last week at the Lydia Community Building. Several appropriate games were enjoyed. Party refrshments were served by the hostesses, several friends of the honoree. A large number of gifts were presented to Mrs. Harvey. WITH THE SICK Rev. Roscoe Bryan is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Francis Cooper returned to his home Saturday following a | week's stay at Bailey Memorial Hospital due to injuries received in football practice. I. Bailey, Sr., is re cuperating at home after a sur gical illness at the Anderson Me morial hospital. Little Jimmy Hairston under went a tonsilectomy at Bailey Memorial Hospital on Monday of last week. Glenn Gaskin was a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital a few days last week. J, W. Davis Is now at Bailey Memorial Hospital after two weeks at Self Memorial hospital in Greenwood with injuries re- ceivde playing football. Mrs. Joe Nelson is a patient at the Medical Center in Charles ton. A. T. Crawford, Sr., underwent surgery at Self Memorial Hos pital in Greenwood last week. Mrs. Claude Willard is con fined to her home with an in jured foot. PARTY FOR MRS. WHITMIRE Monday evening Mrs. Clyde Trammell and Mrs. Cecil Mc Lendon entertained with a going- away party for Mrs. R. E. Whit mire at the home of the former. Mrs. Whitmire will enter the Medical' Center in Charleston Oc tober 28. Mrs. B. F. Harvey directed a few humorous games, which were enjoyed by those p reawl. Party refreshments were serv ed by the hosteases. Many nice gifts to be. used in the hospital were prevented to the honoree. )t , „ , HALLOWEEEN PARTY ENJOYED The thirteen - year - old girls’ Sunday school class of the Lydia Baptist Church held a combined business meeting and Halloween party last Thursday evening. The girls wore Halloween cos tumes of all descriptions. Refreshments and decorations were in the Halloween motif. Mrs. M. J. Sanders is the class teacher. During the business session the girls voted to have a class meet ing the third Sautrday of each month, and to celebrate the birthday of the girl whose birth day falls in each , particular month. Officers elected for the year were: Vivian Black, presidwt; Randall Spivey, vice-president; Brenda Gibbs, secretary-treas urer; Steve Wright, program chairman; Kathy Berry and James Black, recreation and song leaders. After the business session, leaders discussed projects for the year. During the social hour refreshments were serv ed. The 4-H club will meet the second Monday of each month. Members were asked to enter produce or projects in the fair at Laurens this week. • * • Mr. and Mrs. Carter Wright were in Gaffney Sunday to visit Mrs. Wright’s mother. Mrs. Texie Johnson visited her daughter, Claudia Johnaon, on Sunday. Mrs. Newman Shouae and Mrs. R. E. Martin attended file South Carolina Dean’s and Counselor’s meeting in Colum bia Saturday. This meeting was the twenty-fifth anniversary of the organization in South Caro lina. Miss Doris Seward, dean of women at the University of Kentucky, brought a message on “Silver Spoons and Iren Shovels” at the luncheon at the Russell House. Miss Grace Saase gave the invocation, and Mrs. Arney Childs gave a story as to the history fo the organi zation. Mrs. Ruth Woodruff, president of the roganization, presided over the meeting. She learned early to turn her thoughts to God and to ask Him for courage and for guidance. The country was younger then. Men were still probing physical hori zons in search of a better life for their families. Their quest took them to the sea in ships, or along the danger-filled trails to the West. Sometimes the women shared their peril. Other times, they stayed at home and waited, and that was even harder. But whichever their course, they prayed. Our horizons are different today, and our lives filled with less danger. But we need prayer just as much —- if not more — than we did in Grand mother's day.
