The enlargement will provide space fen* a children's reading room and Enlarged County Library more shelf area for books. A reading room for adults will be in old sec tion. Bell St. Wildcats To Have Homecoming Festivities The Bell Street Wildcats will take on the Ridge Hill Hornets of Ridge Spring Friday night in their annual Homecoming game. The day's activities will get underway with a parade through the business section beginning at 4:30. Featuring the parade will be a number of bands and floats from the following schools: Mar tha Dendy, Woodson, Midway, Sanders High. Floats will be < tered by various classes, clubs and organizations. The Bell Street High band members will be decked out in new uniforms. The band has been making an excellent showing this year under the direction of General Austin. Five majoret serve with the 31-member band. The Wildcats were open last week, so their record remains 5-0 for the season. Coaches Little and Davenport report the squad in good physical condition, with the exception of quarterback Sherman Rhodes, who suffered a knee injury in an auto accident and is a doubtful starter. Full back Ronald Butler was injured in the same accident and is out for the rest of the season with a broken collar bone. A win Friday night will put the Wildcats within one win of repeating as district champions. Bluford Cheeks, James Byrd, James Boyd and James Gbbs are counted upon to carry the offen sive load, with Roy Suber, Claude Simpson, Willie Jones, Luther Burton and Johnny Peake open ing the way. The defense will be led by Leroy Taylor, Clyde Lind- »ny, Raymond Copeland, Raphael Holland and Dorse Jenkins and Ed Young. Rev. J. W. Spillers, mode rator of the association, states that on October 16 at Rabun Creek church the following com mittees will make their report: Executive, Historical, Christian Literature, Baptist Foundation, Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, Public Morals, Christian Education, and Evangelism. Rev. F. M. Julian, pastor of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, will preach the associational ser mon at the end of the morning session .and Dr. Harold Lindsey, director of evangelism for the South Carolina Baptist Associa tion, will preach on “Evange lism” at the close of the after noon session. Cooper, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Laurens, will preach the doctrinal sermon at the close of the morning ses sion, and Dr. Horace Hammett, general secretary and treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, will preach on “Evangelism in Today’s World’ at the close of the afternoon ses sion. Election of officers will be held on the morning of the sec ond day. There are 42 churches and 41 pastors in the Laurens Baptist Association. Rev. J. W. Spillers, moderator .invites afl| of the churches to send representatives to each of the sessions. The host churches will serve meals at the noon hour. Lisa Sergio Coming For College Lecture Lisa Sergio, specialist and lec turer in world affairs, will visit Presbyterian College on Oct. 17- 18 as a Danforth Visiting Lectur er. Miss Sergio is recognized op both sides of the Atlantic as one of the ablest and best informed analyst of international affairs. The lecture series through which she comes to PC is sponsored jointly by the Danforth Founda tion and the Association of Amer ican Colleges. The world affairs expert will speak informally to student groups and will deliver a chapel lecture on “The Future of Free dom Lies in the East” on Octo ber 18, open to the public. Harris attended the Governor’s Conference in Columbia on Tuesday. IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Talmadge Simmons is a surgery patient at Self Memo rial hospital in Greenwood. Billy Trammell has returned to his home after being a patient in Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. Ginton High JYs Win Fourth Straight The Clinton High JVs won their fourth straight game Mon day, beating Abbeville 26-6. Darrell Godfrey scored on a 20-yard run in the second period. Laney passed to Neil Hall in the same period also as Tommy Johnson took a Laney pass for the TD. Abbeville scored on a one-yard plunge. Clinton came back as Mike Sanders scored from the 8-yard line. The PAT failed. In the final period, tackle Jimmy Kinard picked up a fumble and scored from 50 yards out. Laney ran the extra point.
