Friends of James Barker, Jr., will be interested to know he has recently been discharged from the Air Force. Mrs. Esther Mitchell is visiting in Greenville and Easley this week. Spending the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. George Price were Mr. and Mrs. Louie Price and family of Winder, Ga. Connie Ivester of Spartanburg, spent last week with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arzo Ives ter. Spending the day with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stroud Saturday was Mrs. O’Nelia Epting of the Bush River community. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Farmer Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Ballard of Joan na. Miss Marion Mitchell is spend ing this week at the Baptist As sembly in Ridgecrest, N. C. Ray Snider spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Snider. Ray is stationed at Memphis, Tenn., with the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Cox, Sr., and Joel visited, their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Vinson and Mr. and Mrs. Joel Cox, in Seneca Sunday. Joel Cox Jr., returned to Charleston this week to re sume his classes at The Citadel. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wallen- zine and family of Beech Island, spent the w eek-end with their pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Mitch- rfl and Mr and Mrs. Claude Wal- lenzine. Mrs. J. W. Davis has returned to her home in Saluda after spending some time with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Williams. Mrs. Daisy Boozer of Owens- burg, Ky., is visiting her sisters, Mrs. Harry Foster and Mrs. C. W. Windsor for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Pearson and Harold and Gail Painter have returned home after vaca tioning in West Palm Beach, Fla. Sunday they had as guests their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Painter of Gaffney. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McLendon this week are Mr. and Mrs. T. E. McLendon and family of Davenport, Fla. Rev. and Mrs. C. J. Sexton spent Sunday in Honea Path . where Rev. Sexton brought the messages at the Honea Path Pen tecostal Holiness Church, while Rev. Paul Taylor holds a revival at the Lydia Mills Pentecostal Holiness Church. They were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Bannister in Belton. Mrs. Elizabeth Price and Janet accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sexton and family of Greenville to Myrtle Beach for a vacation last week. Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stewart were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stewart of Ashe ville, N. C. Miss Patsy Campbell, student nurse in Columbia, visited her parents, Mr .and Mrs. J. W. Campbell, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stewart visited Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Patr ton in Greenville Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jdhn Abbott and famliy of Seneca, and Mrs. J. H. Lyles and son of Darlington, vis ited Mrs. W. T. O’Shields and Gary over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Bentley were amnog the parents who en joyed the picnic at Lake Green wood for members of the school band camp Friday night. Mrs. Viola Smith continues ill at her home. Social Security The publisher of a book which is being widely advertised as con taining exclusive information and tips on "How to get twice as much social security,” states that his book has been cleared for accuracy “with the highest legal authority on the subject of Social Security benefit claims This book, Miss Martha Press- ly, social security district man ager, said today, has not been cleared by the Social Security Administration. Miss Presesly said the book, which is offered for sale at prices ranging from $1,96 to $5.00, contains advice which if followed might place a person in a worse rather than a better fi nancial position. She said also that taking some of the “tips” the book offers might lead to extensive delay in the payment of social security benefits, because all of the facts would have to be investigated be fore social security benefits could be paid. “Responsible publishers of pri vately published books and pam phlets about social security,” Miss Pressly pointed out, “make sure that their materials are technically accurate and up to date. Also, they do not try to promote sales with advertising materials indicating th^t the in formation they offer is not avail able elsewhere. Nor do they or imply that a person might lose money by not buying the book they offer for sal#,’!. Miss Pressly advised anyone who has a question as to the ac curacy of a privately published book about social security to ask his social security office about it. She emphasized that there are many reliable privately publish ed books about social security and that the publishers of these books perform a service to the public in helping the Social Se curity Administration to inform people about their rights and responsibilities under the social security law. It’s just that, in his heart, he can’t help wish that he had been the lucky one. ' This is natural, and Jim is young. He’s just beginning to learn that you can’t always be a winner, but he still finds losing pretty hard to take in stride. Fortunately, Jim is being given the advantage of Christian training in church during this all-important period in a boy’s life when a sense of values is being formed. He is learning lessons which only the Church can give him. True, Jim is envying a very small item — a string of fish. But envy and greed come to all of us on a larger scale many times throughout life. To meet this challenge squarely, it takes years of self-discipline. That is why religious training can never begin too early.
