Georgia Team Wins Playoff Series Here
This is the team from Milledgeville,
Ga., that triumphed in a best of three
playoff series over a team from Farm-
ville, Va., here Friday night, 10-9. Each
team was the winner in its state. They
came to Clinton for the series because
of the central location and the excellence
of local facilities. The Georgia boys
went on to play in the Dixie Youth
Series at Hueytown, Ala., which began
last Monday. ”
The teams split their Wednesday
and Thursday night games. At one
time the Virginia team was leading 8-1
in the Friday night game when the
Georgians came up with a grand slam
home run, making it 8-6. The Virgin
ians made another run.
The Georgians came to bat in the
last inning trailing 9-6. A Georgian
was intentionally walked, securing a run
with the bases loaded, making it 9-6.
With the bases still full, and two outs,
a Georgian put one over the fence for
another grand slammer, and winning
the game 10-9.—Photo by Dan Yarbor

COMMENTS
ON
MEN AND THINGS
The Supreme Court of the
United States may change its
course; one can’t rely on 'that
but three or four new justices
might carry a lot of weight in
the right direction. Just as Earl
Warren seems to have out-
heroded Herod, so may others
return the court to its proper
function. A court which has
shifted and somersaulted as
agilely as this court has may
drift back to the time-honored
interpretation of the law, with
out illusions and misconcep.
tions. It may seem a far call,
but the tide comes in six hours
and recedes six hours and the
thinking of men is often un
stable.
Let us, in South Carolina,
be not so ready and willing to
bow to the court; let us be
worthy of our fathers and chal
lenge and contest every en
croachment on our time-hon
ored rights and privileges; we
have in our veins the blood of
patriots who challenged and
defeated a King and built a na
tion which surpasses all others
of all ages.

Senator Edgar A. Brown is
showing the effects of age; at
one time he was a fighter. In
recent days the Senator shows
a spirit of mild aequiesence
which one can’t reconcile with
the renowned gladiator from
Barnwell. Most of us perhaps,
are mellowing with sophistica
tion but the world remembers
those intrepid spirits who
fought, bled, and died for a
would be two converging tubes
of gas hidden in the tellers’
wincjbw pointing outward in
converging position and operat
ed by the foot.
A teller has no time to reach
for a pistol, but he could read
ily step on a pedal that would
shoot two strong discharges of
gas.

A point of law I again wonder
about. By what authority does
any official authorise or draw,
without specific appropriation
that money deposited abroad
for stuff sold by our govern
ment. Our course with Russia
and with Cuba is enough to
make us blush with shame. We
are proceeding childishly with
foreign nations and abominably
with our own people. Can you
buy respect? Even France
seems to lean toward Commun
ism now.
Keep our money here and
make ourselves invincibly
strong.
Our government is selling
and lending hundreds of mil
lions of dollars to foreign na

then we remember that truth

It may be timely to tell the I
young generation that Clemson
College is governed by thir
teen trustees Of whom seven
(7) are a self - perpetuating
group. Senator Brown is one of
the life trustees; one of the
seven legally able to govern
the college regardless of the
State of South Carolina. Of
course without State aid the J
college would wither and die;
but, legally, it is a mere trust, I
which the State cannot legally

by the State could starve it to|

Clemson College is not legal-

I find myself dissenting from
Senator Harry Byrd. The Sena
tor, whom all respect and cher

of principle, but to wait on a
reduction of taxes for a reduc
tion of expenditures is an idle
dream. We have in power men
who throw billions around
about as heedlessly as a child
handles toys. The only way to
reduce spending is to reduce
the money available. Cut the
taxes and with it attach an in
