Lynn Evans and Danny Whit more were in Florence the past week with the Dixie Youth all stars in the playoff off for the state Dixie Youth baseball title. They returned home Friday night after losing to Lynches River, 5-3. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evans and daughters, Karen and Char- ' lene, with Gerald Tollison of Laurens, were in Florence Fri day night for the Dixie Youth ball game between Clinton and Lynches River. Miss Peggy Grady accompan ied her aunt, Sirs. Elizabeth Wil liams of Gray Court, to the Sam my reunion held recently in Pis- gah Forest, N. C. Jerry Harris of Silver street, was a recent visitor of Mr. and Mrs. James Fuller. Frank Hoffman and daughter, Mrs. James Steed of Rock Hill, were visitors of their sister-in- law and aunt, Mrs. Homer Richie, on last Thursday, Mrs. J. W. Fuller spent a re cent week-end with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Lee, and Mr. Lee in Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell, who are on vacation this week, are to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Stone in Houston, Texas, for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Milton King and daughter of Laurens, visited Mrs. King’s mother, Mrs. Lois Webb, on Sunday. Tony Boozer is visiting his aunt - and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Tony, in Columbia. Lynn Boozer spent several days the past week with her grandmother, Mrs. Oor- rie Trammell, near Lake Green wood. Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Harvey and Diane accompanied Mrs. Mattie Harvey to Hendersonville, N. C., to visit her sister, Mrs. William Rowe, and Mr. Rowe for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCaul ey and children, Pam and Billy, with Mrs. Nellie McCauley, left Sunday to visit their uncle and brother, Lt. Col. O. R. Howard, and family in Miami, Fla. Re turning home they will visit Mrs. Frances Norwood and family in Tampa, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Spradley, who are in charge of the Baptist Assembly grounds on Lake Greenwood, had as their visitors last week for 24 hours 500 Swift S.trike III servicemen. Mrs Spradley said “Thye had a good time and everyone of them were gentlemen.’ Mr. and Mrs. Jack Callahan and children of Charleston, vis ited Mrs. Callahan’s sister, Mrs. J. B. Vanderford, and Mr. Van- derford Saturday. Mary Jo Cal lahan remained for a week’s visit with her aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mathis vis ited the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pink Mathis, in Gaff ney Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Shumate, Denise, Mrs. Mattie Harvey and Toni Harvey visited Harvey Shu mate at Camp Old Indian on Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Webb and Cathy, with Roland and Clyde Revis, visited their grandpa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Maples, in Sharon Sunday. Cynthia and Frankie McElhan- non spent the week-end with their grandmother, Mrs. Bernice Mc- Elhannon. Pvt. Roland Revis of Fort Jackson, Columbia, has been spending a two weeks leave with his mother, Mrs. Fred Mathis, Mr- Mathis and sisters, Mrs. Robert Webb and Mrs. Benny Tucker. * Mr. and Mrs. Herman Phipps attended a dinner Sunday at the home of Mrs. Phipps’ sister, Mrs. George Brown, in Union given in honor of their brother, Ralph Parris, of California. It was the first time the five broth ers and listers had been together in 29 years. .. . Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McLendon had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wix of Chester. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Roberts at tended the funeral of Henry Cal vert in Spartanburg last Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. George Gowan of Spartanburg, visited Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evans Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Nabors were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nelson near Laurens Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Roberts had as their guests Sunday Mrs. Roberts brother and sister-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. McKib- ben of Chester, and their daugh ters, Misses Kay and Barbara Roberts, of Spartanburg. Mr. and Mrs. David Word and Sue, together with Mrs. Word’s brother, William Weir and fam ily enjoyed a family picnic at the Weir home on Lake Greenwood Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Ledford and daughters, Debra and De nise, of Gastonia, N. C., visited Mrs. Ledford’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Armstrong, Sunday. Also visiting with them were Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Armstrong and daughters, Sheila and San dra, of Laurens. Sam Cauble of Anderson, vis ited his sister, Mrs. Brooks Pat terson, and Mr. Patterson Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Riddle spent most of last week in the mountains of North Carolina, go ing especially to Fontana Dam. Mr. ( and Mrs. Sidney Oakley have returned home after a week’s visit with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Oak ley, in Rock Hill. Campbell will celebrate a wedding anniver sary August 21. J. B. O’Shileds will observe a birthday August 19. “Happy Birthday” today to Mrs. Houston Ellis. Donnie Miller was 16 years old August 11. G. C. Parrish, Sr., and Carol Parrish, his granddaughter, cele brated birthdays August 8. WITH THE SICK Mrs. J. C. Gregory returned to her home Friday after a week’s stay at Bailey Memorial Hos pital. Nathan Gilstrap is home after several days stay in the hos pital. F. A. Bodie and W. L. Motte remain hospital patients. Mrs. W. I. Bailey will enter Anderson Memorial Hospital Thursday (today) for treatment and minor surgery. Mrs. I. C. McLendon is a pa tient at Bailey Memorial Hos pital. Mrs. Pauline Lawson remains ill in the hospital with a broken foot injury. Mrs. Jenny Wilson is ill at her home. Sidney Oakley is ill at his home on Beech Street. BIRTHDAY DINNER ENJOYED Mrs. Janie Miller gave a birth day dinner for her granddaugh ter, Donnie, Sunday, August 11. Teh table was beautifully dec orated and a bountiful dinner served. The birthday cake with 16 candles was the center of at traction. Those attending were: Donnie’s cousins, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Jenkins and children, Jan, Mike, and Tommy, of Aiken; her mother, Mrs. Blanche Hall and two half-sisters, Benita and Virginia, her brother, Bucky, and sister, Roxanne; and her grnad- mother, Mrs. Miller. Each one remembered Donnie with a gift. PICNIC POSTPONED The Lydia Woman’s Club pic nic and meeting to be held Thurs day night (tonight) has been postponed until further notice. SHOWER FOR MRS. BROWN A pink and blue shower was given at the community building Friday nigth at 7:30 for Mrs. Tommy Brown. The building was decorated beauitfully. There were 12 guests present. Games were played and party refreshments served. Mrs. Brown received many beautiful and useful gifts. Hostesses were Mrs. Sherman Massey, Mrs. J. B. Vanderford, Mrs. Ben Sprouse, Sr., Mrs. J. T. Whitmore and Mrs. Junior Thomas. MRS. TEMPLETON HONORED Mrs. James Estes, Mrs. Harold Johnson and Mrs. Annie Mae Roper were hostesses at a pink and blue shower for Mrs. Doyle Templeton Saturday evening „ at 7:30 at the community building. There were 12 guests present. Many useful gifts were opened and passed. Refreshments were srved by the hostesses. LYDIA BAPTIST CHURCH NEWS A series of films dealing with communism is being shown at the church each Sunday evening at 7:30. The film for Sunday, Au gust 18, will be “Concept 6f Life,” The public is cordially in vited. Revr'-M^Jf/Sanders is pas tor of the church. The Royal Ambassadors, with the pastor. Rev. M. J. Sanders and their counselor, Jimmy San ders, left Monday morning to attend the RA Congress in Wash ington, D. C., August 13-15. Those attending are Andy Ellis, Timmy Sanders, Lynn Evans, Billy Har vey, Malcolm Sanders, and Da vid Lambert. They will return on Thursday. MRS. W. F. MEEKS PASSES Mrs. Madge Satterfield Meeks, 57, died early Sunday morning at a local hospital after an illness of several months. She was a na tive of Laurens County, where she spent most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Martin B. and Janie Armstrong Satterfield. She had lived here the past 39 years, and was a member of the Lydia Mill Meth odist Church. Surviving are her husband, W. F. Meeks; a sister, Mrs. J. P. Oakley oi Clinton; five brothers, Charles, Clee, Mart and Melvin Satterfield of Clinton; and David Satterfield of Dalton, Ga. Funeral services were conduct ed on Monday at 4:00 p. m. at the Lydia Mill Methodist Church by Rev. Dean Sawyer and Rev. Tommy Moore. Burial was in the Dials Methodist Church cemetery near Gray Court. Nephews served as pallbearers. Honorary escort was composed of Dr. R. M. Fuller, Claude A. Crocker, Roy Sanders, R. H. PICNIC SUPPER About fifty women, men, and children enjoyed a picnic at Shady Grove Club House on Tues day, Aug. 6 at 5 o’clock. Games and horse back riding were enjoyed by the children. The picnic was sponsored by the Shady Grove Home Demon stration Club. Miss Claudia Johnson spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Texie Johnson. Mrs. Raymond Dean of Whitmire visited them on Saturday. Little Miss Kay Shouse and Ricky Shouse visited their grand father, N. A. Shouse, several days last week. Buddy Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Wright has returned from his grandmother’s in Gaf- toey. The family of Mrs. C. A. Wright gathered at ho* home on Saturday evening for a family get-together, in honor of her brother and family from Texas. Patsy Morgan has returned to Greenville after spending several days at home.
