BISHOP REUNION The descendants of Willie C. and Maggie Wicker Bishop will hold their annual family reunion at the Joanna club house on Au gust 18. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Dinner will be served at 1 o’clock. NEWS OF THE CHURCHES First Baptist Associational Back-To - School night will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at 7:30 p. m. at the Joanna club house honoring all students going back to school. Tickets are $1.00 per person and must be secured by Sunday night, August 18. The guest speaker will be Dr. Charles W. Singer, former Latvian minister. August 21-28 has beau scheduled for an All-Church Retreat with an all-family program planned for each night, conferences from Jun ior through adult age groups. Provisions have been made for beginner, nursery, aud primary children. Plan now to attend this retreat each night, starting with supper at 6:00. P. Chap man). Rarely indeed, have the so cial events of Clinton exceeded the Annual Ball, given by the Clinton Social Club, on the evening of the 28th ult., and as pedestrians passing by, loitered to listen to the strains of sweet music which filled the spacious hall, they were held enchanted at the scene of intermingled beauty and chivalry. The music was furnished by the Spartanburg band, and the I floor managers deserve great i praise for their untiring zeal and attention to insure perfect pleasure for all. The dancing began at about 10 p. m., and not until the wee small hours of the day, when the sweet familiar strains of “Home, Sweet Home” fell upon the ear, were the assembled crowd reminded that they must bid adieu to the charms of Terpsichorie, to woo sweet slumber. The program was as follows: Grand March I, Waltz; 2, Quadrille; 3, Pol ka; 4, Lancers; 5, Schottischee; 6, While, 7, QuadriUe; 8, Waltz; 9, Polka; 10, Schottischee. Refreshments II, Polka; 12, Waltz; 13. Quadrille; 14, Schottischee; 15, Glide; 16, German. The Costumes We need but a glance to grasp the idea that they were all elegant and tasteful. Miss Emma Leake, Clinton, handsome black silk, with draperies of black beaded net, bodice, V-back and front. Miss Lill Harris, Laurens, empire gown of light blue su rah, with front of handsome brocade, decidedly one of the prettiest costumes in the room. Miss Mary Ferguson, Clin ton, a charming costume of combined simplicity and ele gance; white cashmere with elaborate trimmings of ribbons. Miss Stella Van Horne, Wilkes Barre, Pa., a pretty •costume of nile green mull, elaborately trimmed with lace, ornamented i^lbies. Miss Janie Vance, Clinton, a pretty costume of pink surah with white lace draperies. Miss Bessie Riser, Newberry, white lace with ribbons. Miss Nan Ferguson, Clinton, a costume beautiful in its sim plicity, white mull with trim mings of lace and ribbons. Miss Hettie Lake, Laurens, a charming costume of pink cashmere, with ribbons, orna ments, brilliants. Miss Lizzie Copeland, Clin ton, white mull and lace. Miss Hattie Ferguson, Clin ton, a pretty costume of white mull and lace. Miss Iva Curtis, Clinton, white surah combined with lace, natural flowers. Moody, who live on the Joanna highway, Clinton, is presently serving with the U. S. Marine Corps. After graduating from Clinton High School, where he was known for his broken field run ning on the gridiron, Dwight en listed in the Marine Corps. After completing 12 weeks of recruit training at Parris Island, he underwent four weeks of indi vidual combat training at Camp Lejeunr, N. C. Here he was able to continue his broken field run ning but this time through ob stacle courses. ^ Upon completion of his initial training, Cpl. Moody was sent to Memphis, Tenn., where he under went thorough screening for as signment in Marine aviation. Finally he was selected as one of eight men assigned to Aerial Navigation School. When he completed 19 weeks of studying he graduated, receiving his wings of gold and his designation as a Marine enlisted navigator. As a Marine navigator Dwight sreves with an elite team that numbers no more than 200. Since being designated he has flown to many European countries, covered the Caribbean and trav eled all over the United States while being stationed at the Ma rine Corps largest air station, Cherry Point, N. C. He is presently serving oveis seas with the Marine air wing stationed at Iwakunl, Japan. His travels now have added up to many miles and hours of flying time equivilent to many trips around the world. During the early part of 1962, Dwight stayed mi the ground long enough to marry the former Mar garet Ell Copeland of 815 North Adair Street, ifargaret RMa is residing with her parents while Dwight is overseas. All-Church Retreat Slated August 21-23 At Joanna Church The First Baptist Church of Joanna will conduct an All- Church Retreat August 21-28 at the church. The purpose in the retreat is to help individuals meet their problems both within and out side the family circle. Each night’s program will begin at 6:00 with supper in the recrea tion room. Age group confer ences of Juniors through adult will be held from 7:00 until M®- .. __ signed to meat the needs the Particular age groups only. A Central assembly from 9:60 until 9:00 for Juniors through adults will conclude the night programs. These •—*>*»hiUff will deal with community and world problems as they relate to the individual.
