(This account of the Annual
Batt of the Clinton Social
Club appeared in The Clinton
Gazette of July 4, 1889, and
was furnished through the
courtesy of Mrs. R. P. Chap
man).
Rarely indeed, have the so
cial events of Clinton exceeded
the Annual Ball, given by the
Clinton Social Club, on the
evening of the 28th ult., and as
pedestrians passing by, loitered
to listen to the strains of sweet
music which filled the spacious
hall, they were held enchanted
at the scene of intermingled
beauty and chivalry.
The music was furnished by
the Spartanburg band, and the
I floor managers deserve great
i praise for their untiring zeal
and attention to insure perfect
pleasure for all.
The dancing began at about
10 p. m., and not until the wee
small hours of the day, when
the sweet familiar strains of
“Home, Sweet Home” fell upon
the ear, were the assembled
crowd reminded that they must
bid adieu to the charms of
Terpsichorie, to woo sweet
slumber.
The program was as follows:
Grand March
I, Waltz; 2, Quadrille; 3, Pol
ka; 4, Lancers; 5, Schottischee;
6, While, 7, QuadriUe; 8, Waltz;
9, Polka; 10, Schottischee.

This is the hand
of Justice. It re
proves those
people who have
strayed from the
path of truth and
good living.
Honest men and righteous men have
chosen another hand; one which is not pic
tured here. They never need the reproof of
Justice, for they have chosen the Hand of
God.
Each man is free to decide which hand
will lead him. Some never see the Hand of
God, and their way through life is barren
and pointless.
But with the help of the Church, you can
find the right path. By attending its serv
ices and joining in its work, your way
through life can be made straight and
happy. Take the Hand of God, and you need j
never fear stem Justice.
