Hobby Competitions
Hobby competitions are excel
lent for keeping groups of young
sters busy during the summer
months. My town’s Youth Recre
ation Board put me in charge of
a hobby competition project last
year and I don’t think I’ve ever
had so much
fun.
I assigned
various arts
and crafts hob
by kits to a
number of the
K youngsters.
One of the
girls put together a mosaic table
top. Another made leather wal
lets and purses with material
that had come in kits which she
obtained from one of the local
stores.
OneNlittle boy told me he
wanted to be e lepidopterist. He
explained that a lepidopterist is
someone who studies butterflies.
Getting him started on a hobby
was easy enough. I obtained a kit
for him which contains butterfly
specimens and equipment for
papturing and preserving more
of these creatures. The boy spent
Most of hio summer out in the
woods, and by the time school
began again he had an enormous
ooueetkm mounted and ready to
present to his science teacher.
