Social Security
Question—I am drawing social
Security benefits. I was told by a
lady in the social security office
that anything we sold would be
counted as earned income. I have
some lots on the river 1 would
like to sell. Would this count as
earned income and affect my so
cial security pension?
Answer—You can receive «o>
amount of income from interest
and principal payments from the
sale of farm or other real proper
ty without giving up any social
security benefits. The proceeds
from the sale of your lots is not
earnings and will in no way af
fect your social security benefits.
Question—I will be age 62 this
iall and will apply for social se
curity benefits. I was told that
my benefit would be reduced by
aking it at age 62. WU1 the re
duced benefit remain the same
for life or will I get my full bene
fit at age 65?
Answer—If you do not return
to work your benefit payment
will always rhmain the same. If
you should return to work and
your social security payment is
stopped because of your work,
your benefit will be automatical
ly raised to a higher amount at
age 66.
Question—Is it true that a dis
abled worker may now qualify
for monthly disability benefits
regardless of his age?
Answer—Yes. A monthly dis
ability payment may be paid to
a severely disabled worker re
gardless of his age. However, he
must have worked on a job cov
ered by social security for at
toast 5 years within the 10-year
period immediately before be
coming disabled.
