Miss Mona Cannon, SN at the Spartanburg General Hospital, spent the week-end with mother, Mrs. Eloise Cannon. Little Beth Werts of Green wood, spent the past week with her grandmother, Mrs. Sara Jen kins. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Werts, Jr., of Greenwood, also visited Mrs. Jenkins over the week-end. Mrs. James F. King of Arling ton, Va., has been visiting her mother, Mrs. J. W. Leake, and sister. Mrs. R. P. Hamer, and family. Mrs. William W. Wells, AN, and Chuck Litteral, AN, of the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., spent the week-end with the for mer’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wells, Sr. Mrs. Roscoe Buzhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harris and Miss Rober ta Chaney have returned from a visit to their brother, H. M. Chaney, in Mountain View, Calif. Prof, and Mrs. Earl Halsall left this week for Cedar Moun tain, N. C., where they will stay at their summer home until La bor Day. Mrs. Mary B. Lawter and Miss Mary Cecil Lawter of Macon, Ga., spent the week-end with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ar Black. Mrs. Lawter and her,, daughter have recently re turned from a five weeks Euro pean tour. Mrs. Cassie Tolbert of the Thornwell staff, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Arthur Rish of Leesville, will spend a month vis iting relatives in Gadsden, Ala., Detroit, Mich., Ann Arbor, Mich., and Shehlyville, Ky. They will be accompanied to Alabama by June Karen Sanders of the Har riet Home. 1 Miss Emily Leonard of the Thorrtwell staff, will leave Satur day for a week’s* stay at Sea Is land, Ga., where she will visit her nephew, George Leonard, and family. MAKING HOME HERE Mrs. L. L. King and family are making their home at 701 Pra ther Circle. They formerly lived in Kinards. Mrs. Dean Hartley, Mrs. Clar ence Wiley, Mrs. Isla Preston, and Mrs. Carrie Atkinson of the Thornwell staff, are among those attending a ten-day workshop on child care at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. HOME FROM HOSPITAL Friends of Miss Arva Henry will be interested to know she has returned home following a long convalescence at the Clinton Nursing Home. Mrs. J. H. Crowe and Mrs. Mattie Harvey were visitors in Gray Court and the Warrior Creek community on Monday. Cadet Thomas M. DeYoung has returned from McDill APB, Fla., where he spent four weeks with the ROTC Summer Training Unit. Cadet DeYoung attends Clemson College. Mrs. Eloise Cannon, Mrs. Sara Jenkins and daughter, Lynn, have returned from a two weeks vacation at Fort Riley, Kansas, with Sgt. WUUe Cannon. They also visited Dodge City, the Eis enhower Museum and Founda tion in Abilene and other points of interest in Kansas. Mrs. H. C. Layton accom panied by Miss Jean Layton and Carol Blakely of Greenville are spending two weeks at Windy Hill. Mr. Layton will join them on week-ends. Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Chandler and daughters, Margaret and Paula, of Hopewell, Va., sprat last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl I. Chandler here, and with Mr./and Mrs. Grady Wasson in Laurens. Mrs. L. L. Young has returned from a two weeks visit with her sister, Mrs. Murray Nixon, and Mss. Henry Moore in St. Peters burg, Fla. While there they visit ed in Key West, Flamingo, and other points of interest in Flori da. Mrs. Mixon and Mrs. Moore returned home with her and are visiting here and with relatives in Fountain Inn. BiUy Young is visiting his unclexHtyd aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fowler, in Anderson. CONVALESCING AT HOME Friends of I. Mac Adair will be interested to know he is conva lescing at home following a stay at BaUey Memorial Hospital fol lowing a broken leg injury, have returned to their home in Mr. and Mrs. John W. Dillard New York City after spending a few days with the former’s mother, Mrs. J. Will Dillard. Mr. and Mrs. Don Rhame of Charleston were here this week end visiting the former’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. D. O. Rhame. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tedards and family this week end were Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Weaver 'Slid family of Gaines ville, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tedards and children of Green ville and also Mrs. J. H. Tedards of Greenville. Mrs. Tedards re mained with her son and daugh ter-in-law for a longer visit. TRIP TO N.Y. AND VA. Mr and Mrs. Jim Bradford re turned Thursday from a two weeks trip to Williamsburg, Va., and New York. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy spent the past few days vacation ing in Garden City. Mrs. Jim Walker and boys spent several days recently in Columbia visiting Mrs. Walker’s mother, Mrs. Ernest Coty. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. McMillan of Lakeland, Fla., are visiting the former’s sister, Mrs. John W. Finney Sr. •Mj. and Mrs. Judson Brehmer spent the past week attending the furniture markets in High Point, N. C. They left Sunday for At lanta, Ga., where they will tour the markets there. Their son, Larry, is vacationing in Chaj- anooga, Term., while they are away. * Dr. and Mrs. Lewis M. Ste phens and children, Louie and Gary, spent the weekend with the former’s mother, Mrs. John R. Stephens in Canton, N. C. Little Jim Creighton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Creighton, is visit ing for several weeks his mater nal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Wheeler in LaFayette, Ga. Friends of Mrs. Wyman Shealy will be interested to know she is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Little Morris Seymour is con- valesing at his home following tonsilectomy at Bailey Memo rial Hospital. Visiting him and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Seymour on Sunday were the lat- ter’s parent*, Mr, and Mrs. I. H. Brown of Bowman, Ga. MOVED TO BLACKVILLE Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mussel- white and family have moved to Blackville, where Coach Mussel- white has accepted the position of head coach at Blackville High School. Miss Anne Johnson is visiting her aunt, Miss Dolly Culbertson at Bat’s Cave, N. C. Don Grenade ‘ of Columbia spent Wednesday with his moth er, Mrs. B. Frith. He was ac companied home by his son, Stevie Grenade, who had been visiting his grandmother. Miss Virginia Sadler who spent the month of July here has re turned to her home in New York. She was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. R. E. Sadler as far as Lynchburg, Va., where she vis ited friends. , Visiting the J. B. Arnolds over the week-end were Mrs. Ar nold’s brother and brother-in- law, H. W. Woodruff and Rus sell Mize, of Sarasota, Fla. Miss Anne Ledford Augusta, Ga., visited her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Len’ H. Ledford, over the week-end. Accompanying her home for a few days visit were Lou and John Ledford. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Mangum and family recently moved into their new nome on Chestnut Street. They were former resi dents of 400 Pine Street. v Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon return ed to her home on Hickory street from an extended visit with her daughter Miss Jane Sturgeon in Durham N. C. Thad Johnson Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., spent the week-end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. James L. Mc Clure and family of Sylacauga, Ala., visited Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Young, Jr., last week. Miss Jamie McClure returned home with them following a two weeks visit with Miss Kay Young. Duckett Adair has returned from four weeks ROTC summer training with the Air Force at McCoy AFB, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson and daughter, Martha, of Austin, Texas, are visiting the former’s brother, W. R. Anderson, and Mrs. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin W. Stew art and daughter, Ellen,.of Mai verne, Long Island, N. Y., are visiting Mrs. Lila C. Stewart and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Everette Carson of Gastraia, N. C., visited her sister, Mrs. John Roseboro, and Mr. Roseboro the past Sunday. ' Mrs. Olin Furr is back at her home on the Whitmire highway following surgery at the Green ville General hospital. Miss Gail Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Smith, was accompanied by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Jones of Blacksburg, on a sightseeing trip to points of in terest in Florida last week. Lit tle Barry Smith accompanied his grandparents home for a short Visit. PLAN HAWAII TRIP The Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Free land and children, Carolyn and David, have returned to their home in Alexandria, Va., after several weeks stay with the lat ter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Thomas. The Freelands will jet to Hawaii August 14 where Rev. Freeland will conduct a two weeks’ Baptist revival which is a part of the Baptist Jubilee Ad vance of the Southern Baptist Convention. W. G. Duvall of Covington, Ga., visited his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mr^ Homer Jones, on Sunday. While here he alsfi visited with. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Holland. Mrs. Mary Norman has been vacationing with her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Huffstetler and family in Columbia and College Park, Ga , with another daugh ter, Mrs. , James Thomas, Mr. Thomas and grandson, Ray mond Patterson. She was ac companied to College Park by Mr. and Mrs Huffstetler. " Mrs. Eari Rice and children i- with Mrs. Boyd Owings visited * in Asheville, N. C., earlier this week. DEATH IN FAMILY Mrs .Tom Childress and daughter, Laurie, of Dalzell, spent last week with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chaney. Also here for the week was their son, Jimmy Chaney, who was espec ially called home due to the death of his grandfather, J. M. Ownbey. \ VISITED WITH SISTER Mrs. Mary E. McCoy returned this week to her home at Arden, N. C., following a months’ leave from her position as visiting nurse at the Asheville Nursing Homes, to visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Loftis. While here she and Mrs. Loftis visited Mrs. Luna Crook and Homer Huggins in Woodruff, Mrs. Pearl Ball of Laurens, and Mrs. BsBe Waldrop and family in Campobello.
