MAUDE BRYSON Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ramage and son of Clinton, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Bryson on Sun day. Friends of Hugh T. Jones will be happy to learn that he is at home and recuperating nicely fol lowing surgery at the veterans hospital in Columbia several weeks ago. Mrs. John Murray, with her son, John, Jr., returned to their home in Illinois on Saturday af ter spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Chapman. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bannis ter spent Sunday in La France with Mrs. Bannister’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus McClain. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin M)Uer and family of Florence, spent last week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Miller. After several days in AsheviUe, N. C., Dr. Ruth Stokes returned home last Tuehday. She was ac companied home by Mrs. Louise R. Bryson. During the w eek-end Dr. Blanche C. Badger of Farmville, Va., visited her brother, Carl B. Crisp, and other relatives here. Mrs. Goerge A. Anderson of Bristol, Tenn., visited Mrs. Rhett Bryson on last Tuesday after noon. CLUB MEETS Mrs. George S. Wham was hostess to the monthly meeting of the Cross Hill - Mountville Home Demonstration 'Club last Autograph Tea The Chronicle Stationery Shop will entertain with.an autograph tea honoring Mrs. Caroline Cole man of Fountain Inn, author, on Friday, June 7, from 3:00 to 5:00 p. m. to which everyone is invited. Entertained With Tea In Laurens Mrs. Norman Lawrence of Cen tral and Mrs. Charles Lawrence of Clemson entertained Miss Myra Pitts, popular June bride- elect, with tea bn Saturday after noon, May 25 at the Friendship room in Laurens. Pink daisys, white snap dra gons, with pink tapers adorned the tea table Mrs. M. C. Waldrop, Miss Ruth Riddle assisted the hostesses in serving white cakes decorated with pink wedding bells, and other party dainties. ' Miss Pitts was presented a gift of china in her chosen pattern. Tuehday. Mrs. Inez M. Atchison gave the devotional. Mrs. Harold Bishop, program leader, gave a talk on family life. , A review was given of the year’s work of the club. Mrs. J. S. Winebrenner was in charge of recreation. A refresh ment course was served at the end of the meeting. Visiting S. B: Goodman during the week-end were his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Goodman, of Dnmark. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wham of Anderson, spent Sunday with the former’s mother. Mrs. George S. Wham. Dr. Jones Speoker at Friendship Church Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., well known evangelist and founder of Bob Jones University, Greenville, will be guest speaker in homecoming services at Friendship Baptist Church on North Broad Street Extension on Sunday morning, June 2. Dinner will be served on the grounds at 1:00 p. m. The public is invited. Mrs. Boyce Pode Laurens — Mrs. Odessa Tay lor Poole, 75, of Rt. 1, Laurens, widow of Boyce B. Poole, died Friday afternoon in a Ideal hos pital after a long illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Laurens County, daughter of the late Robert W. and Elizabeth Todd Taylor. Her husband died in 1962. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are three brothers, S. C. and S. H. Taylor of Green wood. Funeral services were con ducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. J. C. Sorrow, Rev. J. W. Spain and Rev. Roger Gallion. Burial was in Forest Lawn Ceme tery. C., announce the birth of a son. Roily Bannistef, Jr„ on May 83. Mrs. Bannister was before marriage Miss Martha Temple. Mr. Bannister is the son of Mrs. Roily Bannister, Sr., of the Thomwell Orphanage faculty here and of Mountville. Mrs. Coftton Chose Whitmire—Mrs. Bessie Riser Chase, 84, widow of Colton Chase, died at a Clinton rest home Monday afternoon, May 21, after several years of declining health. She was a native of Laurens County, a daughter of the late George C. and Lottie Scott Riser. She had spent most of her life in Newberry County. She was a member of the Whitmire Presby terian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H. E. Amos of Charlotte, N. C.; a son, Sgt. George R. Chase of McGuire AFB, N. J.; a sister, Mrs. Claude Johnson of Clinton; two brothers, W. S. Riser and John W. Riser, both of Whit mire; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
