Wildcat Outfits " 500 Ball Players Some 500 youngsters in the Clinton Wildcat Recreation Asso ciation are being outfitted in T- shirts and caps this week in prep aration for inter-league play, be ginning next week. George Frady, president of the association, this week expressed appreciaiton to individuals and businesses in Clinton who have contributed both time and money to the new program. Completely manned by volun teers, those who are assisting in clude: Clinton Mill — Ulyss Gilliam, Ed Price, Rubin Stroud, Richard Bowie, William Heaton, E. C. Pressley and Donald McGinnis. Armory Field—Claude Crock er, Butch McElveen, Dewey Ox- ner, Murphey Timmerman, Carl Leonard, and Charles Kinard. Lydia Mill—Junior Thomas, Wayne Templeton. Jack Laney, William Bowling and Claude Mc- Elhannon. American Legion Field—Fate Arnold, Boyd Holtzclaw, and Joe Foster. Florida Street Field — Mrs. Forrest Adair, Henry Adair, and Tony Vincent. Palmetto baseball, the program for boys 13 and 14 years old, has set seven games, according to D. S. Tem pleton, recreation director. Those.games include: May 30—Whitmire versus Jo anna at 3:30 p. m. May 31—Double-header, pitting Bailey againsV Lydia at 7:45 p. m., preceded by Thorn well ver sus Hampton at 5:45 p. m. / June 4 will see another double action day. Hampton meets Whit mire at 5:45 p. m.. followed by Joanna versus Bailey at 7:45 p. m. Jupe 5—Lydia versus Thorn- well, 5:45 p. m; June 6—Thomwell meets Jo anna at 5:45 p. m. Epps Davis, Harry Baldwin, W. C. Baldwin, Bobby Plaxico, and Earl Rice. Others include Sam Marse, Phil Abner, Milford Smith, and John Addison. Officers of the association have been encouraged by the contin ued growth of the program. “More an more youngsters are attracted by this recreation proj ect where every member plays,” Frady said this week. “With the growth, we need more volunteers and also assistance in finances. The Exchange Club is second with five wins and one defeat. The Kiwanis Club ranks third with a three loss, three win record. Ben Hay Hammet leads in batting, ending up the week last Friday with an amazing .800 average. He has sixteen hits out of twenty times at bat, includ ing four home runs in the six games he has played. Gary Campbell is second in home runs with three. He hit two in last Friday night's game. Gary is also second in the bat ting averages with .708. Legion ball, a program for young'men 15-18, is a national project of the American Legion and has been an active program in Clinton for a number of years. James Cox will coach this year’s squad, which has already won two exhibition games in preparation for league play. Clinton has downed Woodruff 9-7, and Cowpens 13-0 in exhibi tion play. On exhibition schedule are the following games this week: Cowpens at Clinton, Thurs day, May 30, at Cavalier Ball Park, 7:45; and Clinton at Green ville. in a double-header begin ning at 6:00 p. m. in Meadow- brook park. Season tickets are currently on sale by players and at the gate. The sesason ticket price repre sents a considerable savings over single admission tickets. In defeating Woodruff last Thursday 9-7, BUly Glenn and Gary Goss collected two hits each for Clinton; Rickejr Corley was the winning pitcher. In the game against Cowpens, , three pitchers, Dickie Watts, Ricky Corley and Mike Osborne, teamed up for a combined no-hit- ter. Following the leaders are: Bai ley Methodist, 6-2; First Presby terian, 4-5; First Baptist, 3-6; Holly Grove, 3-6; Broad Street Methodist, 2-5; and Davidson Street Baptist, 2-7. In the past week’s play, Bailey Methodist downed Holly Grove 12-10. Davidson Street took a one- point lead over Lydia, 6-6, and First Baptist hit the First Pres byterian squad with a 12-7 score. Broad Street Methodist took Calvary Baptist in a close 7-6 game, while Lydia Baptists won over First Presbyterian, 8-5.
