Social Security “Why should I apply for social security? I'm in good health and still make $100 per month. I’m not about to give up my Job in order to get social security bene- NOTICE NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That the subscribers to the cap ital stock of PALMETTO REC REATION, INC., a proposed corporation which is to have its principal place of business in Laurens County, South Caro lina, will meet at the office of Tench P. Owens, Attorney, 203 West Pitts Street, Clinton, South Carolina, on Monday, April 29, 1963, at 11:00 o’clock A.M, for the purpose of organising «»id corporation. Immediately there after the undersigned intend to apply for a charter for the cor poration by filing with the Sec retary of State of South Carolina the written declaration described in Section 12-56 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1962. EUGENE M. HENDERSON LYNWOOD D. LOTT fits. Retirement is a long way off for me!" This man is right. He should not give up his job. But he doesn’t realize that he can keep on working and still get part of his social security benefits. Here is a man who is 86 years of age, has a wife who is also 06, has had average earnings of $2,400 a year all along. Based on aver age earnings of $1,400 a year, he would be eligible for a monthly social security benefit of $84. Since his wife is also 06, she could get half that amount, or $42 per month, making a family monthly benefit of $126—$1,512 a year. They couldn’t receive bene fits every month during the year, but they could collect $862 in benefits for the year. Surprised? Well, here is the way it works: (1) The first $1,200 of the hus band’s^ earnings would have no effect on his social security bene fits since a person can earn up to $1,200 a year and get full benefits. (2) For his earnings be tween $1,200 and $1,760 he would have $1 in benefits deducted for every $2 in earnings—or in other words, his first $1,700 in earn ings would cost him $260 in ben* fits. (3) Then for every dollar over $1,700, $1 in benefits would be deducted, an additional deduc tion of $700 (the amount between $1,700 and $2,400). Therefore, $950 ($250 plus $700) would have to be deducted from this family’s annual social security benefits. (4) Since they would be eligible for $126 per month or $1,512 per year, the $960 would be deducted from $1,512 and still leave this family $682 per year in benefits even though the husband were still working full time and earn ing $2,400 per year! Perhaps you plan to go on work ing full time attar you reach 62 or 66; or you may plan to cut down your work and just pa* tially retire. In either case, you should plan ahead and get full information from your social se curity offices about how your earnings will affect the payment of your.social security benefits. Call, write, or visit your nearest social security office and ask for leaflet No. OASI-23fc, “You Don’t Have to Retire Completely to Get Social Security Benefits.” OFFICE SUPPLIES CHRONICLE PUB. OO. Happiness is the warm fertile climate with which God has endowed each human soul. It will flourish as long as our hearts and minds are exposed to the radiancf of God. And, for those who discover early the spiritual center of happiness, no storm of life can ever penetrate so deeply as to chill the joy of the soul. Are you less conscious of that inner happiness than once? Perhaps you’re living in the shadows ... groping in dark forests ... only a glimmer of God’s truth filtering through. Bring your soul out into the sunlight. Seek joy where it is found. The Church points the Way. t THU CHURCH FOR ALL. • ALL.
