Tennessee Dental College. He has
accepted a position with the
State of Georgia at Milledgeville.

W. G. Horne returned Satur
day to his home at the Isle of
Palms ofter a six weeks visit
with his son and daughter-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Horne.

Charles G. Horne, of Charlotte,

Pvt. Stephen C. Beaty, now of
the 14th Engineering Battalion,
Fort Bragg, N. C., spent last
week-end with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. O. F. Beaty. He had as
his guest Pvt. Harold Sommer-
feldt of Wausau, Wis.

Laurens County Boy’s Steer Wins
Gerald Mitchell, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Royden
Mitchell of Rt. 1, Ware Shoals, showed Us light-weight Here
ford steer to first place in the tight-weight Hereford Class
last Wednesday, at the Blue Ridge Fat Stock show and sale
at Spartanburg.
The steer weighed in at 785 pounds, and graded choice in
the show that featured some 70 other steers of the Hereford,
Angus, and Shorthorn breeds.
Gerald began feeding the steer last October and spent
many hours training it to lead and grooming it for the big
event. The steer was bred by J. T. Addison, owner of the
Joanna Hereford Farm.
Gerald led the steer out into the ring for the last time
Thursday afternoon, when he was auctioned off to Commun
ity Cash Stores, the high bidder, for 27-cents per pound.
Gerald is a member of the Laurens County 4-H Livestock
Club and fed the winner and a shorthorn steer that he will
show at Saluda at a later date as one of his 4-H projects. He
also ha$ dairy cattle and a purebred Angus heifer, at home
for other 4-H projects.

Sponsor Internship
For Summer Period
Laurens County Library with
the help of the State Library
Board is sponsoring for the
fourth year a summer library
internship. j
Internships are open to rising
juniors, seniors and graduating
seniors who have done a great
part of their college work in the
liberal arts; who have at least a
B average, and who are in good
physical and mental health.
An applicant should have an
inquiring mind, enjoy feeding
and sharing it with others, and
be genuinely interested in people
and in public service.
"" This work is planned as an in
troduction to all phases of public
library work and hopes to give
the intern an opportunity to find
out from first hand experience
what a public librarian is and
does.
The intern will work full time
for three months at a salary of
$150,000 per month-
