We need to take a different at-
titude towards mental illness.
Up until recent years, mentally
ill people were confined in a hos
pital and considered hopeless.
Now all that has changed. So Ms
our attitude towards mental ill
ness. Part of mental illness is
emotional illness, and all of us
are subject to attacks of it at
times. The only difference be
tween you and some of htose in
our mental hospitals is a matter
of degree. v ' -
Emotional illness has only r
Gently been recognized as, a
cause of much of oUr physical
illness. We call these ailments
psychosomatic, meaning mind
and body. Lack of emotional bal
ance of the mind causes chemi
cal imbalance in. the body.
All of us are subject to attacks
of emotional illness brought on
by cares, difficulties, and trou
bles. Dr. John Schindlfltf- in his
book, “How to Live 365 Days a
Year,” calls it the C.D.T. illness.
Men of science, psychologists,
ministers, counselors, and oth
ers who encounter and deal with
the C.D.T. illness come up with
similar observations.
Those who have the C.D.T. ill
ness generally fall into three gen
eral groupings or classes:
1. People who are habitually
crabby, complaining. Nothing
suits them. A wise man once
told his son, “People who always
have an axe to grind seldom
make the chips fly.” The fault
finder, the complainer, is so ne
gative that he is always expect
ing and fearing the worst, and
often it comes. The Bible quotes
Job as saying, “For the thing
which I greatly feared its come
upon me, and that which I was
afraid of is come unto me.” How

Billy C. Davis, shipfltter third
class, USN, eon of Mr. and Mrs.
L. F. Davis of Peachtree St,
Lydia, is serving aboard the at
tack cargo ship USS Rankin,
which is engaged In a two-month
amphibious exercise in the Car
ibbean.
The exercise involves five
ships with more than 3,600 Navy-
men and Marines embarked. The
purpose of the exercise is to
train the men in amphibious
strike force tactics.
The ships departed Norfolk,
Va. t on Jan. 7, and are sche
duled to return in March.
