Mrs. Joe McGee, Ameri canism chairman, arranged the program, including American ism and Child Welfare. Mrs. Essie Workman gave an interesting and inspiring talk on Amercianism, and ended by giv ing some rules on flag ettiquette. She urged that the flag be dis played on the days designated. She named the seventeen days designated and also stated that the flag should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by buniing, when it is in such con dition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display. Mrs. Perry M. Moore, Child Welfare Chairman, gave informa tion on the total program of Child Welfare. Funds for our lo cal Child Welfare program are from the poppy sale each year in- May. Bridge Club With Mrs. Michael Turner Mrs. R. Michael Turner enter tained her regular bridge club Thursday afternoon at her home on Chestnut Street. Arrangements of greenery were used in the living room, with small arrangements of daffodils, gressions. The hostess served sandwiches and cold drinks between the pro- Prizes were won by Mrs. E. N. Sullivan, club visitor, and Mrs. James Macdonald. Robbie Cox Honoree: Ninth Birthday Party Little Miss Robbie Kate Cox was honored on her birthday with a party by her mother, Mrs. J. R. Cox. Invited guests included Rob bie’s Camp Fire group. Pink and green decorated cakes, of cocoanut and candy, made like a girl’s face, were served to the guests. J., became the bride of Lieutenant Theodore Lewis Gatchel, USMC, Saturday afternoon at four o’clock. Lieutenant Gatchel is the son of Mrs. Theodore Dodge Gatchel of Norman, Oklahoma, and the late Commander Gatch el. The ceremony and reception were held in the home of the bride’s parents. The Rev. Mr. Hayes gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a dress of white French L’or- ganza featuring soft cape-like sleeves. The filmy Cathedral train fell from the empire line which was edged with alencon lace. Her French illusion short veil was attached to a pointed coronet made of matching lace.’ She carried a cascade bouquet of camellias and stephanotis. Miss Mary Jane Gatchel of Nbrman Oklahoma, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. She wore a dress of pink organza over pink taffeta, styl ed with a tucked bodice and bell skirt. She carried a nosegay of pink camellias. Samuel Banks Hayes, Hi, of Hohokus, New Jersey, brother of the bride, was best man. After their wedding trip, Lt. and Mrs. Gatchel will make their home at Camp Pendleton, California, where Lt. Gatchel is stationed with the United States Marine Corps. The bride was graduated from Bradford Junior College, Bradford, Mass. After attending the University of Geneva in Switzerland, she was graduated from Oklahoma University where she was a member of Delta Gamma social sorority. Her husband was graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in geological engin eering. He was a member of Delta Upsilon social fraternity, Tau Beta Pi engineering fra ternity, and O micron Delta Kappa leadership fraternity. Mrs. Gatchel is the grand daughter of Mrs. S. B. Hayes of Greer, and ~ the late Mr. Hayes, and Mrs. Joseph A. Bai ley of this city, and the late Mr. Bailey. Among the out of town guests were Mrs. E. A. Obering of Oklahoma City; Mrs. T. D. Gatchel and Miss Mary Jane Gatchel of Norman, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Ebert of Arlington, Va.; and Mrs. Paul Nielander of West Lafayette, Mrs. Gary Holcomb Speaks In Cross Hill Mrs. Gary Holcomb was guest speaker of the Friendly Garden Club of Cross Hill on Tuesday afternoon at the home Of Mrs. F. C. Pinson. An interesting- program on “Permanent Flowers’’ was pre sented. She showed fifteen ar rangements with permanent flowers, all basic designs using crystal, wood ceramics and pot tery containers. She also showed accessories which could be used with these designs with glass, nylon, candles and birds in all matching color eshemes. Mrs. Holcomb is a member of the Carolina Wren Garden Club. District Garden Club Will Meet March 12th The Clinton Council of Garden Clubs will be hosts for the South Carolina East Piedmont District meeting of Garden Clubs, Tues day, March 12, at the Lakeside Country Club.; The full day program will be gin with registration -at 10:00 a. m. and the morning session get ting underway at 10:30. Reports will be heard from club presidents and council presi dents on outstanding projects of ^he past year. Mrs. Gary Paschal, president of the- Garden Clubs of South Carolina, will speak to the group at the momiag session on garden club activities. A dutch luncheon will be serv ed at 1.00. Mrs. Robert Riddle of Chester, outstanding flower ar ranger, will present a program on flower arranging at the after noon session. Reservations must be made by March 9, through Mrs. J. W. Moore, 103 Hickory Street. U. D. C. Chapter In Meet Today The Stephen D. Lee Chapter, U. D. C., will meet today (Thursday) at 7:30 p. m. The meeting is scheduled for the home of Mrs. D. A. Yar borough. Mrs. Harry Bouknight Gives Club Program, The Iris Garden Club held the regular meeting February 27 at 3:30 p. m. in the home econom ics room at Clinton High School. Mrs. Arthur Benjamin presid ed, with Mrs. John J. Mabry giv ing the devotion. After a short business meet ing, Mrs. Harry Bouknight demonstrated how to set and serve „ a formal, semi-formal and informal table. MRS. GLASURE Glasure-Adams Engagement Mr. and Mrs,, Lonnie Sexton McMLilian of this city, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Martha McMill ; an Glasure, to Frederick Luke Ad ams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke A. Adams of Butler, Ga. Mrs: Glasure is a graduate of the Clinton public schools, Pres byterian College, and Grady Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology. She is em ployed by the Decatur Clinic Professional Association in De catur- Mr*Adams attended the But ler, Ga., schools, Georgia South western and Mercer University. He is employed by the Gaylord Container Division of the Crown Zellerbach Paper Corporation. The wedding is planned for June 2 at the North Decatur Presbyterian Church in Deca tur. Betty Carol Scott Birthday Honoree Betty Carol Scott was enter tained at her home with a party by her parents, Maj. and Mrs. Joseph J. Scott. Twelve guests enjoyed birthday cake, ice cream, candy and punch, along with the games and prizes. Clinton Music Club To Hear Abbeville M. Camp Fire Leaders To Meet Monday The Clinton Council of Camp Fire Girls regular leaders’ meet ing *wiJl be held Monday night, March 11, at the Camp Fire Hut. There will be a guest speaker giving a program on safety pro cedures for camping and hiking. All leaders are urged to attend. Country Club Plans Entertainment Event On Saturday evening,. J on Century Club Elects Officers For Year The Century Club met March 5 with Mrs. F. M. Boland for a business meeting. New officers were elected for the 1963-1965 term. They are: Mrs. George W. Taylor, presi doit; Mrs. Walter Johnson, vice president; Mrs. D. O. Rhame, secretary-treasurer. The officers of the advisory committee were also selected. They include: Mrs.-, Robert E. Wysor, chairman, Mrs. D. H. McFadden, and Mrs. Marshall Brown. Flower Arranging Lecture By J. Dowling The Laurens Council of Garden Clubs is sponsoring a lecture Friday, March 8* at S:S8p. m. at the Laurens High School J. C. Mrs. Charles Long Of Rock Hill, entertained Miss Harris with a luncheon March 1 at the Woman’s Club In Greenville. A luncheon by Mrs. F. P. Thompson of Laurens, Mrs. D. O. Rhame and Mrs. J. B. Hart of Clinton on March 6 in Green wood. Other parties planned for Miss Harris include: A morning coffee will be given by Mrs. Ayliffe Jacobs on March 9. Mrs. Kent Krell of Columbia will honor Miss Harris with a luncheon here on March 11. Mrs. George Frady, Mrs. Claude Crocker, and Mrs. La mar lightsey of Greenwood will entertain Miss Harris with a luncheon in ^ewberry on March 12. Continuing the group Bible study, Mrs. E. N. Sullivan gave a program on a portion of the gospel aoeo-dlng to St. Matthew. Mrs. James Macdonald led the opening devotional on Lenten Worship. In a business session a treas urer’s report was given by Mrs. R. B. Hellams, and other an nouncements were made by the president Mrs. Macdonald. Mrs. Taylor Will Speak To B. And P. W. A Tri-Center Business and Pro fessional Women’s meeting, which includes members from Greenwood, Laurens and Clinton, will be held here at the Mary Musgrove H o t e 1 on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Elsie Holland, north dis trict director, will preside Mrs. George Taylor, Clinton Woman of the Year, will be guest speaker. Mrs. Taylor will tell of her experiences in Brazil while residing there for many years. Mrs. Tom Taylor, vocalist, will give several selections. All members are urged to at tend.
