Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sprouse and family were called to Spartan burg on Monday of last week be cause of the death of her grand father, Z. W. Roberts. Burial was in Tennessee. Miss Martha Sanders of Easley was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Whitmore, Mrs. Ruth Gregory and son were Saturday visitors in Greenville. Polly and Angie Williams of Newberry spent the week-end with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Williams who ac companied them to their home on Sunday. Mr. Conner is a patient in the Whitmire Clinic > MISS ESTES SATURDAY BRIDE Miss Joyce Ann Estes, daugh ter of Mr. and Mm: Oliver Estes, became the bridle of Jimmy O’Shields, son c^PMr. and Mrs. J. B. O’Shields on Saturday, Feb ruary 2. The wedding was performed by Probate Judge Hewlette Wasson in Laurens. ' For her wedding, the bride chose a blue day dress and black accessories. Her corsage was of rose buds. The young couple are making their home with the groom’s parents for the present. HONOR GRANDCHILDREN WITH PARTY To celebrate the 4th birthday of Cindy Carroll and Kerry Car- roll’s third birthday their grand mother, Mrs. Odie Nelson gave them a birthday party at which 19 young friends were present. The little folks enoyed playing games and later the party re freshments of cake and ice cream, cookies and punch. The children’s birthday cake was a lovely pink. Assisting with the party were Mrs. Columbus Hughes and Mrs. Jimmy James. Cindy and Kerry received many gifts from their guests. LYDIA BAPTIST CHURCH' NEWS , The Brotherhood of the church will meet tonight (Thursday) at T p. m. to go to the Laurens county jail for a worship service. Y. W. A. FOCUS WEEK The Y. W. A.’s of the church will observe their annual Focus Week, Feb. 10-16. CHURCH SERVICES ON AIR The February Sunday morning Worship Services are being broadcast over Radio Station WPCC each Sunday at 11 a. m. CIRCLE WEDNESDAY The Kathleen Walker Circle will meet Wednesday at 1 p. m. at the home of Mrs. B. C. Revis. PARTY FOR BRIDE-ELECT Miss Joyce Estes, bride-elect was honored with a party at the home of Mrs. J. B. O’Shields on Friday evening with relatives and a few close friends invited. Several appropriate games were enjoyed by the group. The hostesses, Mrs. Jimmy Hairston, Mrs. Bill Nelson, Mrs. J. C. Estes and Mrs. Jimmy South served delicious party re freshments after the games. Miss Estes was remembered with gifts from the hostesses and others present. THIRTEENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED Susan Estes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Estes cele brated her thirteenth birthday with a party, Friday evening at the Lydia Community Building. Fifteen young people enjoyed games and dancing during the evening. Sandwiches, potato chips, mints, cookies were served with punch. Mrs. Bo Brown assisted with the party. Susan received many nice gifts from her friends. WITH THE SICK Mrs. Sidney Oakey has been ill. Mrs. Fred Bodie is a surgical patient at the General Hospital in Greenville. Mrs. J. B. O’Shields is ill with flu. Mrs. Billy Cooper and San dra have flu. Mrs. Annie Lawson was a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital a couple of days last week. Mrs. Paul Revis has been ill with flu. MAN THROWN FROM CAR William Fulmer, 37, of Route 1» Laurens, received minor injuries in this one-car accident shortly after 2:06 p. m.', Sunday, when the 1951 Chevrolet he was driving went out of control on a curve on Secondary Road 308 7 miles north of Clinton. . Investigating the accident was Patrolman C. W. Harrison, who said that Fulmer was traveling in a westerly direction at the time of the accident but the car turned around as it went off the road. He said Fulmer told him he was thrown out of the car. Fulmer was carried to Bailey Memorial Hos pital, where he was treated and dismissed.—Photo by Jimmy Cooper. . Y “It is pafe to say that every one of them fell ill because he or she had lost that which the liv ing religions of every age have given to their followers, and not pne of them has been really heal : ed who did not regain his relig ious outlook.” Dr. Jung is not alone in this conclusion. Scientists, psychia trists, psychologists, medical doc tors and ministers are saying the same thing. Articles on the subject are appearing in the cur rent magazines^ Fortunate is the boy or girl who is brought up in a religious home where there is an atmos phere of the presence of God. Children so reared are spared the heartbreaking emotional battles of later life which come to a climax in the middle years. I am constantly dealing with men and women in the 30's and 40’s who are involved in this struggle. It is the cause of all of our domestic strife and ju venile delinquency. Where husband and wife have not come to terms with God, their fellowman, themselves, they become -involved in domestic strife. I have been observing this for many years. The homes which are God-cehtered do not fall apart. “The family that prays together, stays together.” In addition, I have observed that those families which have a gobd religious philosophy of life enjoy much better health. I have been pastor of one congregation for almost 40 years. The families whic^ are regular in church and Sunday school attendance, prac tice what they learn there, have very little major sickness. Par ents and children enjoy much better health.
