Area Foresters
In Two-Day Meet
Over one hundred representa
tives of Federal, State, industrial
and consulting forestry agents
are expected in Clinton Friday
and Saturday when the annual
South Carolina sub-section meet
ing of the Appalachian Section of
the Society of American Forest
ers will gather here.
The Appalachian Section, which
includes the two Carolinas and
Virginia, holds its annual meet
ing each winter. Summer meet
ings are held in state sub-section
groupings.
Activities on Friday will in
clude a tour of industrial wood
land holdings in this area to ob
serve land management prac
tices in South Carolina’s Pied
mont section.
The evening dinner will be
held at Champion Paper Com
pany’s lodge on Highway 56, 101
miles south of Clinton.
The Clinton Chamber of Com
merce is assisting in planning
activities for the wives, including
a tour of Whitten Village and|^
Hallmark Manufacturing Co. on
Friday.
The group will tour Standard
Plywoods, Inc., of Clinton on Sat
urday morning.

To Address Kiwanis
Dr. James S. Day, pastor of
Calvary Baptist Church, Spar
tanburg, former newspaperman,
amateur movie photographer and
tennis enthusiast, will address
Kiwanis Club tonight (Thursday)
at the 7 o’clock dinner meeting.
Dr. Day, a Kiwanian for the
past 32 years, has held pastorates
at First Baptist Church, Sebring,
Fla., First Church Punta Gorda,
Southside Baptist Church, Lake
land, Fla., and his present church
at Spartanburg.
Dr. Day’s subject tonight will
be “Four Men Who Live With
Me.”

week.
The South Carolina pair de
feated Ken Oettinger, of Chapel
Hill, N. C., and Richard Holder-
ness, of Greensboro, N. C., in
the finals, 7-5, 6-2. Sloan, seeded
fourth in junior singles, was up
set in an early round by Ed
Parker of Raleigh.
A Charlotte sportswriter de
scribed Sloan as “an eccentric
17-year-old Harvard student who
played with a borrowed racket."
Sloan’s racket had a broken
string and he borrowed one for
the match.
In the recent state Jaycee Jun
ior Tournament at Clemson, Jim
reached the semi-finals, being
defeated by Woody Cleveland of
Columbia, who went on to win in
the finals.
Mrs. Gray Attends
Course at Winthrop
Mrs. James Gray of Clinton,
is currently attending a library
training institute at Winthrop
College.
Mrs. Gray will study under
Mrs. Von Etta Salley of Colum
bia College, who will teach ele
ments of book selection, cata
loging and classification, and
reference service.
The institute, sponsored by
Winthrop and the South Carolina
State Library Board, will end
August 3.
Win Mountain Trip
Four young Clinton newspaper
salesmen are visiting Ghost Town
in the mountains of North Caro
lina today as winners of a con
test sponsored by The Greenville
Piedmont, according to Robert
E. Farrar, carrier advisor.
The top salesmen are: Joe
Bee knell, son of Mr. and Mrs
Donald Bee knell, son of Mr. and
Mike Ficklin, son of Mr. and
Mrs. D D. Ficklin of 106 Wash
ington St.; David Bryson, son of
Mr. and Mrs. James D. Bryson
of 609 Musgrove St.; and Danny
Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O.
Hunt of 305 S. Owens St.
Services Monday
For Floyd M. Revis
Floyd M. Revis, 55, died Sat
urday afternoon after several
weeks of declining health.
He was a native of Oconee
County, but had lived in Clinton
for the past 15 years. He was a
son of the late Watts and Fula
Smith Revis. He was a member
of the Clinton Moose Club and
the First Baptist Church of An
derson. He was employed by May
flower Mill of Clinton.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jo
Neal Chastain Revis; four sons,
Donny and Jimmy Revis both of
Clinton, Marshall Revis of Green
ville and Fred Revis of the U. S.
Army in Baltimore, Md.; a
daughter, Mrs. Margaret Rogers
of Greenville; a brother, Clayton
Revis of Anderson; a sister, Mrs.
Ida Mae Alewine of Greenville
and seven grandchildren.
Funeral servicees were con
ducted Monday at Calvary Bap
tist Church by Rev. J. W. Spril
lers. Burial was in Memorial
Gardens near Moonville.
Ministers Attend
Clinton Seminars
Another group of 60 Presbyte
rian ministers from over the
state meet in Clinton this week for
the second of two seminars on
the new Covenant Life curricu
lum to be introduced into the
Sunday School program.
They arrived Monday for the
three-day sesion which utilized
facilities at Presbyterian College
and the Clinton First Presbyte
rian Church. A similar group
met here two weeks ago as part
of the synod-wide effort to in
doctrinate ministers and church
workers on the new program.
Two other seminars also were
held in other parts of the state
this month.

on Moorhead extension in Jo
anna this evening at 7 o'clock.
Intermediates and young people
are making reports on current
news concerning communism.
