Commerce School
Holds Graduation
Commencement exercises of the
Jefferson School of Commerce
were held in the ballroom of the
Mary Musgrove Hotel on Friday
evening July 7.
David Cromer gave the invoca
tion. and Mrs V> M Hughes, in
structor of the school, welcomed
the guests
The faculty, students, and
guests enjoyed a banquet after
which the Rev Robert L. Croggs,
pastor of Welcome Baptist
Church. Laurens, spoke to the
group Mr Scroggs was introdue
ed by John Essa’-y. one of the
students of the school
The program presided over by
the director of the school, Mrs
Robert Johnson, included the fol
lowing: class prophesy by Mrs
Shannon Long, second high honor
student: and valedictory address
by Mrs. Jimmie Hughes, top hon
or student
Diplomas were awarded by
Mrs Johnson and Mrs Hughes to

Three Army Reservists
Complete Training
Three army reservists from this
city completed the final phase
of six months active military
training under the Reserve Forces
Act program at the Air Defense
School, Fort Bliss, Texas, July 1.
During this final phase, they
[ were trained in the duties of an
artillery crewman.
The Air Defense School, the
largest military school in the na-
| tion, trains personnel to man and
maintain the guide dmissile sys
tem employed in the air defense
of the U. S. by our armies over
seas and by our allies of the
NATO and SEATO nations.

Mrs. Culbertson
Laurens—Mrs. Lula Leslie Cul
bertson, 92, of 204 College Place,
died Friday morning at a local
hospital after a one-day illness.
She was a native of Laurens
County and was a daughter of
the late Lige and Liza Moore.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Laurens.
Surviving are three sons, Gary
Culbertson of Spartanburg; Fred
W. Culbertson of Laurens; and
J W Culbertson of Gastonia, N.
C.; five daughters, Mrs. A. C.
Long of Laurens: Mrs. H. P.
Griffith of Columbia; Mrs. J. E.
Morgan of West Palm Beach,
Fla ; Mrs. Wesley Edgar of Co
lumbia; and Mrs. G. C. Anderson
of Spartanburg; a sister. Mrs.
Tom Nichols of W’aterloo; 25
grandchildren, 30 great-grand
