Mrs. Carol us Davis served as co-hostess. Each member brought an ar rangement, and Mrs. Gary Hol combe discussed with the group the good and weak points of each. Mrs. Arthur Benjamin presented the devotional for the afternoon. Presiding over the business ses sion was Mrs. Guy A. Tumblin, president. Following the program a salad plate and coffee were served. Miss June Adair Fetes Miss Neighbors August Bride-Elect Miss Mary Ann Neighbors, August bride-elect, was honored on Saturday when Miss June Adair invited a few friends for a get together at Bat Cave, N. C., where she is spending the sum mer with her aunt, Mrs. C. 1. Cooper of Greenwood Accom panying Miss Neighbors from Clinton were Mrs Marion Mad den and Miss Leanna Young. Lunch was enjoyed at the sum mer cottage and later the group motored to the Flat Rock Play house near Hendersonville where they saw "Marriage Go Round.” Upon their return Miss Adair presented the honoree with a bas ket of kitchen items Joanna Resident Weds Mass. Native St. Boniface Catholic Church. Joanna, was the scene of a nup tial mass on Saturday morning, July 1, at 11 o’clock when Miss Rita Annette Smith of Joanna, became the bride of Raul Martin Fernandes of New Bedford, Mas sachusetts. Father Thomas Nor ton of Spartanburg, officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mr. Fernandes is the son of of Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Fernandes of New Bedford. Miss Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Smith, was giv en in marriage by her father She wore a full length bridal satin gown, fashioned with a V neck line, fitted bodice, long sleeves pointed at the wrist, and inserts of Alencon lace. A wide band of lace accented the bouffant over skirt, forming an open panel in front, and ending in a short train. Her elbow length veil of illusion fell from a pearl trimmed princess crown, and she carried a white orchid streamered with lace edged bands of satin. Miss Patricia Carr of Joanna and the University of South Caro lina. was maid of honor Carry ing a bouquet of sweetheart roses and green carnations, with matching ribbons, she wore a pastel green net organza over blending taffeta. Her headpiece was made of matching organza and flowers. The mid-morning rites included organ music by Mrs. C. W. Ho gan of Clinton, at the organ, and Joe L. Delany, Joanna, vocalist William Carter, Jr., served as best man, and Ricky Carter was altar boy. Following an informal recep tion in the foyer of the church, the couple left for their honey- m o o n trip to Massachusetts where they will be guests of the groom’s family. Mr. Fernandes is currently sta tioned at Norfolk. Virginia, and for the present Mrs. Fernandes will make her home with her pa rents in Joanna. SARAH ANNE BRADSHAW Bradshaw-Copelond Announcement Mr. and Mrs. Enire Alton Bradshaw, Sr., of Bluffton, for merly of Cross Hill, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Sarah Anne, to Posey Watts Copeland, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Posey Watts Copeland, of Route 2, Clinton. The wedding will take place at the First Baptist Church of Cross HiU on August 12. Miss Bradshaw has completed two years at the Uni versity of South Carolina and will enter Presbyterian College this fall. Mr. Copeland is a junior at Clemson College where he is majoring in forestry. With the Sick Methodist Women Announce Meetings A joint meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service and the circles of Broad Street Meth odist Church will be held on Mon day at 9 30 a m in Hodges Hall. The Sara Glenn Circle will meet at 8 o’clock Monday eve ning at the home of Mrs. Joe Bonds Going-Away Party For Mrs. Hart Honoring her daughter, Mrs. Carroll B. Hart, who left last week to join Mr. Hart in Karachi, Pakistan, Mrs. James Oeland en tertained with an informal mor ning party on Thursday. Mrs. William Jacobs and Mrs D. O. Hhame greeted the guests Also assisting in the dining room and entertaining in the den and living room were Mrs. Kenneth N. Baker. Mrs. J. B. Hart, Mrs. Horace D. Payne, Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobs, Mrs. Thomas F. Hollis, Mrs. A. J. Thackston, Mrs. Ed ward G. Campbell, and Mrs. S. P. Bowers. Mrs. Frederick Knopp of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who is visiting her father, John Spratt, was a special guest and stood with the hostess and honoree. The buffet refreshment table, overlaid with a green cover, was colorful and attractive in its in formal setting. The centerpiece was of day lilies and daisies, and a brass container held cold drinks which were served with sandwich es, cookies and other party dain ties. H. Whit more, son of Mr and Mrs. Boyd Whitmore, of Enoree, Rt. 2. The wedding was held Friday, June 30, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Mike I^ee of Gray Court. The bride wore a white dress with lace bodice and full skirt with white accessories. Mrs. Whitmore is a graduate of Wood ruff High School. Mr. Whitmore is employed at Clinton Mill. The couple will reside on Eno ree, Rt. 2, after their return from a trip to the mountains. Church Circles Study Foreign Missions A study on foreign missions was given at meetings of the circles of the Woman's Society of the Associate Reformed Presbyte rian Church on Monday. Circle No. 1 met in the after noon, with Mrs. Clyde Todd as leader. Mrs. R. L. Plaxico con tinued the stewardship study, and others taking part on the pro gram were Mrs. A. B. Blakely, Miss Nannie Young Tribble, Mrs. George Watts Copeland and Mrs Marvin Turner. Circle No. 2 met at the church in the evening, with Mrs. Ernest Hitt, chairman, leading the de votional. Mrs. Bob Plaxico, as sisted by Mrs. C. B. Betts, Mrs L. M. Wilson, Mrs. Hitt and Mrs. Marion Nabors, presented the program. At the close of the meetings the groups took special offerings for foreign missions. Leake Home Scene of Reception for New Pastor and Family A lovely reception honoring the Rev. Albert S. Harvey, new pas tor of Broad Street Methodist Church, and his family was given on Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Leake by the Woman’s Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild. Receiving with the Rev. and Mrs. Harvey and their children, Michael, Mary Lydia and Jay, were Mrs. S. C. Chaney, pres ident of the W. S. C. S., and Mr. Chaney. Officers and members of the organization assisted the host and hostess in serving and en tertaining in the receiving rooms. Mixed garden flowers adorned the reception hall and in the liv ing room lilies and hydrangeas in table arrangement were used with a mantel bouquet of red and pink roses. Peach gladioli in artistic array decorated the den. Throughout the evening during which a number of members of the congregation called, Mrs. Jamas M. Pitts rendered piano selections. In the dining room punch, cheese biscuits, assorted dainty cookies and nuts were served. Jackson will be interested to know she has been a patient at Blalock Clinic this week. Mrs. Harold Copeland has been discharged from Hays hospital following surgery. Discharged from Blalock Clinic earlier in the week were C. J. Sexton, Mrs. W. L. Nix, Mrs. Mac Nelson, W. C. Wood, Mrs. Geqrge Snelgrove and Mrs. Robert Lyons of Laurens. Friends of G, W. Hollingsworth will be interested to know he en tered Hays hospital Tuesday for treatment. Lloyd C. Byers of Mountville, is improving at home following an operation illnesh at Hays hos pital. Donald Boyd of the Presbyte rian College faculty, has been a patient at Hays hospital. Friends of Mrs. Robert E. Wy- sor will be interested to know she is improving at Hays hospital fol lowing a n appendectomy last week. Mrs. George Whitehead is g. Pa tient at Blalock Clinic. SOUR CREAM DROP COOKIES 6 tablespoons shortening 1 cup firmly packed dark 1 egg H cup dairy-made sour cream 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour teaspoon sods 2 teaspoons baking powdar teaspoon salt V* teaspoon nutmeg ft cup raisins Vt cup chopped nuts Cream together shortening, brown sugar and egg. Stir in sour cream. Sift together flour, soda, baking powdar, salt and nutmeg. Stir into batter. Add raisins and nuts. Chill at least 1 hour.
