CITY RECREATKW NEWS
The Moose Club continues to
lead in the Little Boys League
the second half. They lost a little
ground this week when they lost
a game to Whitmire. The Moose
have one game to make up be
cause of rain last week. It will be
made up this afternoon at 3:90
p. m. Whitmire and Joanna are
tied for second place with four
wins and two losses each. These
three teams mentioned above
could have a very close race be
fore the season is over. The Ex
change Club still has a chance of
winning.
The Lions Club is the hard
luck team of the second half.
They have lost five out of six
games played. Four of these five
losses have been by one run.
Francis Cooper of the Ex
change hit two home runs this
past week. This gives him a total
of six which is one shy' of the
park record and one behind John
Henry Lott of Joanna who tied
the park record of seven week
before last. Terry Chandler of
the Kiwanis team is third in home
runs with five and first in bat
ting with an amazing .619 aver
age. Jerry has five more games
>0 break the home run record and
also to boost his batting aver
age higher.
The Whitmire Palmetto team
continues to roll up victories.
They have won ten and lost one
this season with only four games
to go They have a three game
ead which will be very hard to
over take. Bailey and Joanna are
tied for second place at present
with seven wins and four losses.
Johnny Rushton is the hard
luck pitcher so far this season,
lie threw a no hitter at Whitmire
last week and lost his game on
errors by his teammates.
ALL-STAR TRY-OUTS
The Little Boys that will try
out tor the All-Star team.will be
gin practice Monday morning,
July 3 at 10 a. m. Their tourna
ment will be held in Laurens this
year and will start July 17 (Mon
day). Teams taking part in this
tournament will be Abbeville, Sa
luda, Greenwood American,
Greenwood National, Laurens,
Ware Shoals, and Clinton.
The Girls Softball girls split a
doubleheader with Watts last
Friday. The younger group de
feated Watts while the older
group lost to Watts. Our girls
play Laurens in Laurens this
week. Their final home games
will be the week after the Fourth
of July.
There will not be any recrea
tion in town during the week of
the Fourth except those trying
out for the All-Star team.

ited Mrs. J. M. Scogin in Colbert,
Ga., Sunday. Mitch Scogin came
home after a few days stay with
his great-grandmother, Mrs. J.
M. Scogin.
Linda Burroughs of Colbert,
Ga., is spending this week with

CIRCLE MEETS
On Thursday of last week Cir
cle No. 2 of the Hurricane Baptist
Church met at the home of Mrs.
Cecil Scogin. Seven members
were present. Mrs. Dillard Young
presented the program on Africa.
During the fellowship hour re
freshments of cookies and punch
were served.
CLASS HAS FELLOWSHIP
The young adult class and their
families of the Hurricane Baptist
Church enjoyed a fellowship sup
per recently at the Panorama
Lodge.
GA’s MEET
The Junior Girls’ Auxiliary of
the Hurricane Baptist Church
met Tuesday night at the home of
