Of the arrests made during the month. 21 were for drunken ness One case was suspneded, 55 j days given, and the others paid ! $248 20 Next came 15 offenders arrest ed for speeding and reckless driv- I ing, who paid $240 ; Other arrests and fines included: fighting, 9, $114 and 120 days; | carrying concealed weapons, 1, ^ $27; disorderly conduct, 6, $63 and 90 days; vagrancy, 5, $36. two suspended; driving under the ’ influence of intoxicants, 2, $60 and 30 days; operating auto with l out driver's license, 2. $52; violat ing trespassing la«v, 1, $12; pet ty larceny, 4, $51 and 60 days; all other offenses, 11, $122 Parking law violators, 105 paid $57 50 Living Endowment Gifts To PC Reach $17,791 For Year Gifts to Presbyterian College have hit $17,791 in the first three months of the 1961 Living Endow ment effort, the program’s second report indicated today. This annual giving project among alumni and friends of PC has an objective of $65,000 for 1961 after achieving a record $53,200 last year. The $17,791 received thus far has come from 371 contributors By comparison, last year’s rec ord-smashing program had reached only $10,000 from 245 donors at the same date in 1960 Funds contributed to the Living Endowment are used as a means of assisting Presbyterian College to meet the heavy burden of its current operating expenses Most of the contributions are given without special designation, but donors may indicate any particu lar area of interest they prefer. The program is designed to un derscore the importance of nu- m e r o u s smaller contributions, given annually, to the sound fi nancial operation of PC. Clinton Juniors Setting Fast Pace If performances in exhibition games are any indication, the Clinton American Legion Juniors are heading for a successful sea son this year During the past week they were victorious over three teams of the area: Anderson, 7-5; Easley, 6-2; and Greenville, 20-15 The Anderson and Greenville games were played at Clinton, on Tuesday and Saturday, while the third was at Easley. Wayne W’ord was credited with the Anderson game. James Was son with the Easley contest, while Barry Whitman chalked up the Greenville game, being relieved in the fifth inning by Ford, and Dicky Watts took over the pitch ing chores in the seventh. Phil King banged out home runs in the Anderson and Green ville games, the latter being a three-run round trip. George Frady is heading up the coaching staff of the Clinton Jun iors this year. Mrs. Steer Posses In Atlanta Yesterday Mrs. Kathryn Shaw Steer, wife of Horace W. Steer, died Wednes day morning at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Ronald E. John ston, in Atlanta, Ga . after sev erol years of declining health She was a member of the First Baptist Chunh of this city. Mrs Steer was twice married. Her first marriage was to the late Joe E- Shaw who died a number of years ago. By this union two sons and two daugh ters survive. Joe Shaw George town. Marion Shaw, Wilmington, Del.. Mrs. F. A. Brzoski and Mrs. j Ronald E. Johnston, of Atlanta; 9 grandchildren. Her second marriage was to Horace W Steer of this city, who f survives. She is also survived by one brother, William Sutton, of j Spartanburg Funeral services will be held | Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at (he graveside in Rosemont Ceme tery, conducted by Rev. J. H. Darr The body will arrive in Clinton today (Thursday) at 6:26 p in and will be carried to Gray Funeral Home where it will re main until the hour of the ser vices. The family will be at the residence, 600 W “Main Street Sara June Gooch, 8, Hit By Car In Florida Sarah June Gooch, eight-year- oid Hampton Avenue School pu pil, was struck by a car in front of her grandmother’s home in Ar cadia. Fla., on May 31 The little girl was taken to St. [Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Re- I ports state that she is still in critical condition, although she has regained consciousness and I recognizes members of her fam ily. She is the daughter of Mrs. Dixie Gooch Sullivan, who at- | tended Presbyterian College the past year while living in Clinton Mrs Sullivan had intended to ! be in Florida for the summer, | but states she will return to Clin ton with her family as soon as Sara is well enough to travel. Dr. Betts Attending A. R. P. Synod Session Dr. C. Bynum Betts, pastor of the Associate Reformed Presbyte rian Church, is attending the ses sion of the General Synod of the church at the Bonclarken assem bly grounds at Flat Rock, N. C. The meeting began Tuesday and will continue through Friday. Accompanying Dr. Betts was Mrs Betts and Mrs. A. M. QUALIFICATIONS AS TO RESIDENCE: Every person of fering to vote must have resided in the State of South Carolina for two years, in the County of Laurens for one year, and in the precinct in Laurens County at which he offers to vote for four months, all prior to JUNE 13, 1961; PROVIDED, that minist ers in charge of an organized church, and teachers of the pub lic schools, and the spouses of any such persons, shall be en titled to vote after six months’ residence in South Carolina, if otherwise qualified.
