Mr. and Mrs. William Beck- om of Greenwood, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Beck- om. Mrs. Kelly Waits, Mrs. J. M. Bozard, and grandson, Martin, were Thursday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Griffis in Pen dleton. Mrs. Bozard and Martin remained for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Barron O’Shields and children visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Sons in Little Mountain Sunday. Tommie O’Shields of Sanford, Fla., spent the week-end with relatives here and visited his mo ther, Mrs. Sarah O’ShMds, at the General hospital in Spartan burg. Little Cindy Cole of Charleston, is visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Cole, Sr., for sev eral weeks. Mrs. J. R. Hall and family, and Jerry Hall spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. James Hall in Little Mountain. Mrs. El}a Hair and Miss Ruth Hair were Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Nobles in Newberry. Mr. and Mrs. George Metts, Kathy and Sylvia, visited her mo ther, Mrs. Sarah O’Shields, > at the General hospital in Spartan burg Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bozard spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs Kenneth Griffis in Pendleton Mrs. J. Ml Bozard and Martin accompanied them home follow ing several days visit. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Elliott spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Cheek in Royston, Ga. Mrs. J. W. Kennington and children of Atlanta, Ga., have re turned to their home following a week's visit here with relatvies. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Greenville. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Belinda Joy Buchanan of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Betty Lou Clopton of Newberry;, a rrlaternal grand mother, Mrs. Unner Prater of Joanna; a paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elise Tucker of Greenville; and a maternal great-grand mother, Mrs. Esther Prater of Batesburg. , Funeral services were conduct ed Tuesday at 3:30 p. m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Jo anna. by Rev. Eugene McElhan- non,' Rev. John W. Warren, and Rev. Ben F. Jones. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery, Clinton. Pallbearers were W. Mrs. Arthur League attended the scout leaders training pro gram at Camp Landis on Friday. Mrs. E. J. Bishop and Mrs. McNeal Trotter attended the fun eral of Leonard Wood in Bates burg on Friday. Friends will be interested to know James R. Hall is a patient at the Baptist hospital in Colum bia, where he underwent surgery. Mr. Hall is the son of Mrs. J. M. Hall, and a former resident of Joanna. FAMILY GATHERING Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bishop were hosts Sunday to the fam ily gathering of a combined birth day and Mother’s Day dinner in honor of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bishop of Rt. 3, CUn- ton. Those attending the occasion included Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bishop and children, Cynthia, Mike, and Melissa, of Mount- ville; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sum mers and children, Gwen, Diane, Gail and Marty of Ninety-Six; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shealy, Jackie and Carol, of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCarson of Rt. 3, Clinton; Mr. and Mr*- Sher man McCarson and children, Janice, Kathy, Larry, Dennis, and Delores, Mrs. Mary Crowd er, Mary Burbage and children, Mary Lois and Keith and Mrs. McNeal Trotter of Joanna. TO ATTEND ACTIVITY DAY Next Saturday, May 13, the Girl Scout* and their leaders will attend the Star Fort Council out door activity day at Greenwood State Park. They will leave by foundation bus from the club house at 8:45 a. m., and will re turn around 4:30 in the afternoon. The program will be given at 10:00 a. m. when they will regis ter. Following registration the flag ceremony and cooking of the meals. The Brownies and inter mediates will enjoy games by fol lowing trails. At 2:30 the trail will entf, at which time they will have the Juliet Lowe enack friendship ceremony. Leaders accompanying the girls on this trip will be Mrs. Frances Warner, Mrs. Leroy Couch, Mrs. Arthur League, and Mrs. Floyd Abrams. All committee members apd parents are invited to attend the occasion along with the scouts. SENIOR DROF-IN On Sunday afternoon the Wom an’s club honored high school seniors of the community with a drop-in party at Joanna Club house from 3:0 Oto 4:30. The club rooms held beautiful flower arrangements of roses and Iris which were placed at vantage points. Those in 'charge of music and entertainment during the after- ternoon were Mbs Judy Murrah, Miss Eugenia Byare, Mrs. John W. Warren, Miss Jeanie Ray Sur ratt, and Miss Mary Ann Brown. Ceramics made by the senior citizens were on display. Punch, cake and mints were served. The occasion was well at tended throughout the afternoon. EXECUTIVE BOARD TO MEET The executive board of the Woman’s Club will hold its first meeting of the new year on Mon day, May 15, at the Joanna club house at 7:00 p. m. ATTEND MEETING SUNDAY Mrs. Kelly Waits, Mrs. Hugh Pollard, and Mrs. W. J. Hogan attended a meeting of the Women of the Church of South Carolina Presbytery Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurens. BIRTHDAYS AND WEDDING ANNIVESARIE8 W. W. Misses Sallie and Mary Fran ces Nabors were Saturday eve ning visitors of 'Mrs. Willie Young. Mre. Odus Young, Ronie, Mac and Pam, Mre. Arthur Benjamin and Lee spent Friday night at the Benjamin cottage on Greenwood. On Saturday they were Joined by Mr. Young and Mr. Benjamin. Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Willingham of Brevard, N. C., are visiting the Bobby Neighbors family. Friends of Mrs. Bobby Neigh bors will regret to know she has been ill at Hays hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wallace and family of Laurens, Mr. and Mrs Dillard Young, Mr. and A(rs. Mason Young and family, and Mrs. Willie Young were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Mace Young Dr. and Mrs. Mac Going, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Eubanks and duaghter of Joanna, were Sunday visitors of Mrs. Going’s and Mrs. Eubanks’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Haupfear. Mrs. B. J. Lawrence and Steve of Greenville, returned home Sat urday after a week’s stay with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Haupfear. Little Lau rie Haupfear accompanied them home for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. George King, Sr., *nd granddaughters, Pam and Wanda Ruth King, of Cross Hill, visited the Ralph Lawson family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kirby and children of Greenville, visited the Dillard Youngs Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Simomns and Steve, of Aiken, spent the week-end with Mrs. Simmons’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mason Simpson. Friends of Mrs. Mason Young will be glad to know she is able to be out after a few days stay last week at Hays hospital. BROTHERHOOD TO MEET The Brotherhood of Hurricane Baptist Church will meet tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 at the church.
