Mrs. John Griffin Pitts, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Reddeck had as guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Johnson and family of Greer, Hubert Adair of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McMillin and children of Inman. Fosters here Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Porter of Franklin, N. C., are here to spend some time with their dau ghter, Mrs. G. B. Goldsmith, and Mr. Goldsmith on the Saluda highway. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Dwight Moody, Jr. CHRISTEN SON Mr. and Mrs. Harold Simmons and son, Harold Steven, of Aiken, who were visiting relatives here, had their son christened Sunday at Broad Street Methodist Church. C. E. Galloway, Learn an Jones nad A. M. Greenwood attended the Cincinatti-Milwaukee game at Columbia on Thursday of last week. AT GUILD MEET Mrs. P. M. Pitts and Mrs. C. D. Pitts were in Spartanburg Saturday to attend the spring meeting of the Wesleyan Service Guild, southeastern Jurisdiction, as representatives from Broad Street Methodist Church. Mrs. Baxter Crawford of Ches ter, was the guest several days last week of Mrs. J. Lee Young, coming especially to attend the concert of Miss Leanna Young at Converse College on Friday eve ning. . SWIFTS HERE Mr. and Mrs. Larry Swift of Des Moines, Iowa, are spending several weeks here with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Thoma- sson. The Swifts, Mr. and Mrs. Herchel Thomason and daugh ter, Patricia, were vision at Cherry Grove Beach during the week-end -and attended the azalea festival in Wilmongton, N. C., on Saturday. Rev. and Mrs. John Rivers and children and Professor Don ald Bpyd spent a few days last week touring places of interest and the gardens in and around Charleston. Mrs Elwyn Sturgeon and chil dren of Savannah, Ga., visited Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon here the past week-end. PITTS AT HOME Friends of S. A. Pitts, who has been a patient for several weeks at the General hospital in Spar tanburg, will be interested to know he returned home on Sun day and is improving. Mrs. Wilson Harris was the week-end guest of Mrs. W. W. Smoak in Walterboro. On Sat urday they toured the Magnolia and Middleton gardens, and the sidewalk art exhibit near ' St. Phillips in Charleston, Mr. and Mrs. J. Leland Young, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nettles and Mies Irene Workman attended the concert given at Converse College, Spartanburg, on Friday evening by the Young’s daughter, Miss Leanna Young. General and Mrs. Ansel God frey leave today for Charleston and thence for North Augusta where Mrs. Godfrey will visit their daughter, Mrs. Callie Gault, and General Godfrey will spend several days at Camp Gordon, Ga,. on offleial National Guard business. COOPER AT HOME Tommy Cooper, who has just completed basic naval, training at Great Lakes, 111., is spending a leave here with his father, Tom B. Cooper and Mrs. Cooper. He will report April 26 to Bain- bridge, Md., where he will at tend yoeman school. Mr. and Mn. Ben Bridgeman, of LeapviUt, spent the week-sad with Mrs. Bridgeman'a parents, Mr. and Mn. T. Clayte Ray. They also had as guests Misses Rogers and Gerry Mull, of Joyce Rogi Greenville. Harry League, Jr„ of Fort Jackson, Columbia, was at home for the week. Friends will be in terested to know he completes his six months tour of army duty on May 9. AT LITCHFIELD Dr. and Mn. Marshall Brown attended a meeting of South Carolina college presidents and their wives held at Litchfield Inn, Litchfield Beach, over the week-end. They also visited in Georgetown, Brookgreen G a r - dens, Murrells Inlet and Swan Lake gardens, Sumter. Mr. and Mrs. RusseU King, of Darlington, were week-end guests of Mrs. King’s brother and sister- in-law, Col. and Mrs. B. F. Win- gard. Miss Orlena Cartledge, of John ston, is visiting her nephew, Dr. James L. Walker and family. Mrs. Walker will return tomor. row after a few days stay in Co lumbia with her mother, Mrs. Ernest L. Miss Linda Bridges has re sumed her studies at Furman University, Greenville, after spending the spring holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Stallworth is a Presbyterian College graduate who now serves as assistant pro fessor of Bible at PC. A native of Atlanta, he receiv ed his BA degree from Presbyte rian in 1959 after establishing an outstanding record as president of the Student Christian Asocia- tion, cadet commender of the ROTC unit and in other positions of student leadership. Stallworth entered Columbia Theological Seminary after grad uation from PC and acquired his bachelor of divinity degree from that instituaion in 1958. He went directly from there to the Rome (Gg.) First Presbyterian Church where he served as assistant pas tor for 14 months. Stallworth came to the PC fac ulty from his Rome position in September, 1999, and is now com pleting his second year here. He is married to the former Mary Hopkins of York, and they have a young son. Laurens Takes Track Victory Laurens—Laurens High scored a sweeping victory in track here Saturday by rolling up 114 2-3 points to defeat Union and Clin ton. Union was second in the meet with 34 1-3 points, followed by Clinton with six. Ira Stevenson was the high point man for Laurens, collecting 21 individual points. Funeral Services Held Here Tuesday For lloyd H. GHbert Funeral services for Lloyd H. Gilbert were held Tuesday at 3:00 p. m. at Gray Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. W. Redd Tur ner, pastor of the First Presbyte rian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Gilbert died Friday in a Washington. D. C., hospital af ter a long illness. The body ar rived in Clinton Monday night. He had lived in Washington for a number of years and was an attorney with the Justice Depart ment. ' Surviving is his wife, the for mer Miss Frances Garvin. She is the daughter of the late Dr. E. B. Garvin, optometrist, who prac ticed in Clinton many years ago. Pearson Returns From Okinawa Jack F. Pearson, commissary- man, third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leard H. Pearson of 1« Bluford St., Clinton, is serv ing with Naval Mobile Construc tion Battalion Five at Port Hue- neme, Calif. The battalion returned to Port Huenense March 7 following com pletion of warehouses and staging facilities on Okinawa for the Third Force Service Regiment of the Third Marine Division.
