Homemakers of America, has
been selected to servo as first
vice-president of District 1. •
The selection was made at the
annual convention held on -Sat
urday at the Anderson recrea
tion center. Thia was ons of three
area meetings in which the Thorn-
well and Clinton High chauters
have participated recently.
A bi-county meet for Laurens
and Greenwood was held on
March 10 in Laurens at which
time three other local girls were

candidates.
Eight hundred and eighty-three
girls and teachers, representing
54 chapters in the sight counties
in district 1 were present for the
meeting on March 25. A dress
review was featured as a high
light of the afternoon sessions.
The Tbornwell chapter, of
which Mrs. Roily Bannister is in
structor, received ratings on
scrapbook and dress divisions
and a good rating on the year
book. The Clinton High chapter
received an excellent rating on
the activities in which they par
ticipated. Mrs. H. A. Bouknight
is adviser for this group.
' It was reported at the meeting
that the Laurens and Greenwood
County chapters have contributed
over a hundred dollars for the
scholarship fund.
Marjorie, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. B. Arnold, and a sopho
more at Clinton High, also drew a
chance to attend the national
convention in St. Louis, Mo., in
July. The district president, Miss
Phyllis Cannon of Simpsonville,
will also attend along with one
district officer.

the absence of tin president and
vice president, Mrs. Hugh Jones
called the meeting to order.
Mrs. R. W. Gabbert gave a
very Inspiring devotional. Dur
ing the business meeting the can
cer drive was discussed.
Mrs. James Goodman gave a
wonderful demonstration on
“Pictures.” She told that pic
tures add attractiveness to
homes, homes A picture should
be one which gives pleasure and
enjoyment. It should 1. Stimu
late the imagination, 2. Add
beauty, color and live, 3. Ex
press personal appeal, 4. Serves
as a relief of bare wall space.
Mrs. Alex Simpson gave a pro
gram on 4-H work for young
people.
