David Curtl* of Burlington, N. C., ipent the week-end here with their ton and daughter, Mr. and Mr*. R. C. Hunter, Jr., at their home on South Broad street They came especially for the christen ing of their grandson, Rex Cur tis, at the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Curtis, Jr., ill a stu dent at Presbyterian College. Mrs. Robert E. Wysor has re turned home after a week’s visit in Kinston, N. C., with her dau ghter, Mrs. John B. Jordan, and Mr. Jordan. Mrs. Jordan and children bad been here on a visit and Mrs. Wysor accompanied them home. Mrs. Alida Anderson of Temple City .Calif-, who has been spend ing some time with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Anderson, left this week to visit her brother in Na ples, Fla. Mr. Anderson has re turned to Clinton after accom panying her to Naples. Miss Myra Pitts, student at Winthrop CoUege, Rock Hill, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Ray Pitts. Mr .and Mrs. Jerry Davis and daughter, Cathy, of Greenville, spent several days this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Milam. Miss Beth Trammell, who at tends Winthrop College, Rock Hill, was at home Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude R. Trammell. Dr. and Mrs.. James Macdon ald were visitors at Blitmore Es tates, N. C., on Saturday. IN NEW HOME Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stewart and the latter’s uncle, John F. Norris, have moved into their recently completed new home on the Greenwood highway. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Eichejber- ger, Jr. ,and daughters, Sandra and Julia, of Decatur, Ga„ who were visiting her parents in An derson for the weekend, spent Saturday here with Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger. Mrs. Duncan Johnson of New berry, was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs. Sunday evening they were in Lau rens to hear The Carolers of An derson ,who are directed by John Townsend. IMPROVING Friends of R. C. Henry Is In New York on a buying trip for the Pearie Henry Shop. Friends here of Mr. and Mrs A. S. Yarborough of Tampa, Fla., (the former Miss Ena Adair) will be interested to know Mr. Yarborough, who has been a hospital patient since September, returned last week to his home and is convalescing. Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Neil, who were recently married, have tak en an apartment In the home of Mrs. J. Will Dillard on Cleve land street. Mr. Neil, of Marion, !* a student at Presbyterian Col lege. Mrs. Nell, the former Miss Lucretia Siewers of Winston- Salem, N. C., has attended Con verse College, Spartanburg. TO ROCKY MOUNT Mrs. C. M. Bailey and Mrs. W. L. Marshall, Jr., leave tomor row for a visit with their dau ghter and sister, Mrs. W. B. Lea, and Mr. Lea in Rocky Mount, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Mangum and children were recent visitors for several days recently with Mrs. Mangum’s parents in Fair mont, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Arnold of Beckley. W. Va., were overnight guests on Friday of the former's brother, J. B. Arnold, and fam ily. RECUPERATING Friends of Mrs. Roy Gasque will be interested to know she is a patient at the General hospital, Greenville, and expects to return home in a tew days. Mrs. L. C. Singley and dau ghter, Miss Maurice Singley, were recent visitors with their daughter and sister, Mrs. John W. Sanders, and Mr. Sanders in Greensboro, N. C. TO FLORIDA Miss Ruth Bailey left Tuesday for Clearwater, Fla , where she Friends of Dr. James S. Gray will regret to know he is HI and a patient at Hays hospital. Mrs. John C. Davis of Mount- villa, is a surgical patient at Hays hospital. Dismissed from Blalock Clinic earlier in the week were Mrs. Maude Smith, Mrs. Lester Long shore, Mrs. Ottie Miles and Bren- day Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Campbell. Friends of William Graham will be interested to know he is recuperating at his home on West Main street following an opera tion illness at Hays hospital. Silas Campbell underwent sur gery this week at Hays hospital. Mrs. J. M. Hatton, Sr., Is a pa tient at Blalock Clinic. Among those able to return to their homes from Hays hospital this week were: Mac Bryant, Mrs. Ernest Graham, Mrs. Alice McManus, Frank Templeton of Joanna, Mrs. Charles Hill, Mrs. Carol Templeton, Mrs. Cedi Mc Coy of Laurens, Mrs. R. B. Smith of Joanna, Ralph Sheriff and Jesse Young. Friends of Miss Louisf Buford will be interested to know she is a patient at Blalock Clinic. Included on the patient list at Hays hospital are Tony McCall, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mc Call. Mrs. Virgil Webb, William J. Sheppard, Mrs. Sue Banks, Mrs. A. G. Jones, formerly of Greenville, has opened Jones Co lonial Service Station on the Greenwood highway. Mrs. Jones is the former Miss Barbara Jane Satterfield, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Satter field of this city. They have two daughters, Jerry Lynn and Vir ginia Diana, and are residing at 6-B King Apartments on Cedar street. Wilson and Willie Lay hit 12 points each to pace Winns boro, white Barry Whitman led the Red Devils with 15. In a preliminary game the Winns boro girls defeated Clinton 53-27-, as Gladden sank 35 points. Clinton’s best were Hill and Jacks with 13 and 12 points; re spectively. Mrs. Mobley Receives Notional Science Foundation Scholarship Mrs. Wade Mobley, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Bellingrath of this city, has been awarded one of the coveted National Sci ence Foundation Scholarships for college professors. She is the only woman in 'the two Carolina* to receive this hon- Wins Citadel Essay Award Cadet W. W. Mayes, who is at tending The Citadel In Charles ton on the first Christmas Or phanage Fund Scholarship, was named first place winner of The Citadel Confederate Centennial Essay Contest. Winners were announced at a luncheon honoring Star of the West Medal winners at the Mili tary College of South Carolina. Cadet Mayes, a third classman and a member of Company L, previously lived at Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton and was graduated from high school in Clinton. He won the $4,000 schol arship primarily because of his high school grades and is now an active member of the cadets’ Or phanage Fund Committee.
