Bridge Club Hostess
Members of her Wednesday
Bridge Club were entertained at the
home of Mrs. E. N. Sullivan last
week.
Two tables were in play with
sandwiches, cookies and cold drinks
being served between progressions.
When scores were counted prizes
were presented to Mrs. Thomas F.
Hollis and Mrs. Edward Ferguson.

Mrs. Cecil Wilson was hostess for
a dessert bridge Thursday after
noon for members of her card club.
A mantel arrangement of dahlias
and gladioli in beautifully blended
shades of pink and cerise and a cof
fee table bouquet of pale pink aa-
sanqua adorned the living room
wrhere two tables were laid for a

After the progressions high score
award was presented to Mrs. J. B.
Arnold.

F. V. Smith discussed the resources
at the meeting on Tuesday after
noon held at the home of Mrs. J. M.
Oeland.
Mrs. W. R. Turner, president, pre
sided over a short business session.
, In the paper Mrs. Smith gave in
teresting data on water power, land,
minerals, forest and fishing A color
movie showed scenes in Charleston,
low country homes, Columbia, on
farms, in the textile industry, high
ways. activities at the various col
lege campuses and 4-H club work.

"Confederate Spies"
Are Di^bussed At
U. D. C. Meting
An interesting program on Con
federate spies was given by Mrs
W A. Moorhead at the October
meeting of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy held on the 6th at
the home of Mrs. J. Karl Johnson.
' Mrs Moorhead toM something of
the Ivies of two prominent women
and their services to the Confed
eracy.
At the close of the evening Mrs.
Johnson was assisted by the co
hostesses. Mrs. J ,p Rowland. Mrs.
Austin Chandler, Miss Mary John
son and Mrs Ray Anderson, in
serving coffee, sandwiches and
sweets.
To decorate the meetnig rooms
spider lilies were combined with
red dahlias and lavender and yl-
low dahlias wre arranged together.

Michele Prevatte
Celebrates Birthday
Michele Prevatte celebrated her
second birthrday on October 11. Lit
tle friends who called between 10
and 11 for cake and milk were Will
Ferguson. Sammy Smith, and Alice
Rogers Cheek.
Mrs. Avery Smith and Mrs. J >hn
Word assisted in entertaining the
small guests. On the pink cake were
elephant candles. Burning through
out the party was a candle which
was presented to Michele on her
first birthday by her grandmother,
and which can be burned each year
through her 16th birthday.
Guests remembered Michele with
gifts. Party hats and pink basket
favors were given.

Clare, to Kenneth Norton Baker,
Jr. Mr. Baker is the son of Mr.

The bride-elect was graduated
from Agnes Scott College where
she received her BA degree in Eng
lish. While there she served on the
executive com maftee of Student
Government and was president of
her dormitory. She is presently

Mr. Baker received his BS de
gree in Chemistry from Presbyte
rian College where he was a mem

Kappa Alpha Order. After serving
in the army, he was discharged as
a first lieutenant. He is presently
enrolled in the dented school of the
University of Louisiana and
member of the Delta Sigma Delta
dental fraternity

Card Benefit
The garden clubs of Clinton are
at work preparing for the big ca
nasta-bridge benefit to be held Oc
tober 26 at 3:00 p. m. at the Ameri
can Legion Hut
The public is invited to purchase
tickets at $1.00 each from any gar
den club member or at the door.
Half of the funds raised will be
used for the beautification of the
Boy Scout Hut and the balance will ' ernon " Mam

Greenwood Thursday
The Women of the Church of

of South Carolina. Presbyterian
Church. U. S. will open its 61st an
nual meeting at 9 30 a m Thurs
day. October 27 at the First Pres
byterian Church of Greenwood.
Mrs. W P. Shealy. president, will
preside over the session of the Pres
bytery which comprises Laurens.
Greenwood. Abbeville. Newberry,
and McCormick Counties. There are
more than 2,500 women enrolled in
i the local groups of the 39 Presby
terian churches in the area.
Mrs. J. Melvin Thompson, Synod
ical president, will bring greetings
from the Woman's Advisory Council
and Board of Women’s Work in At
lanta. and stress woman's part in
the Presbyterian Mission to the na
tion.
