Mrs. Robert Anderson presided. Mrs. Joel Cannon, Spiritual Life Secretary, reported that six mem bers attended the Spiritual Life Retreat at Myrtle Beach October 8. Those attending were Mrs. S. C. 4 Dunlap, Mrs. Dan Yarborough, Mrs. Arnold Cannon, Mrs George Reid, Miss Essie Davidson, and Mrs. Joel Cannon Mrs. Randolph, editor of the Family Worship sec tion of the .“Upper Room” publi cations, gave the leading address. Mrs. Cannon also reminded mem bers that the Week of Prayer and Self Denial is to begin Tuesday, October 25. Special envelopes for Self Denial offerings vyill be dis- trtouted among the circles. The WSCS and the WSG will sponsor a service to be held October 26 at 7:00 p. m. Members were asked to bring staple goods for the Thanksgiving basket to the next meeting on No vember 14. Mrs. Lykes Henderson was top scorer for the afternoon Century Club Meets Tuesday The Century Club will meet Tues day, October 18. at 4 o’clock at the home of Mrs. J M Oeiand Three Business Women Honored At B<SPW Meeting At the dinner meeting of the Clinton Business and Professional Women's Club Tuesday evening at The Mary Musgrove Hotel. Miss Margaret Blakely, past president, welcomed three special guests, Mrs. J H Stone, Miss Essie Young, who were presented corsag es (and Mrs A. M Copeland, in absentia) business women whom the club was honoring during the celebration of National Business Women's Week She gave a resume of their activities and suggested that we pattern our lives by theirs and when we reach retinment age that we stnve to possess the same amount of joy and enthusiasm as they do Mrs Copeland, a member of the Thorn well Orphanage staff, came to the city in 1896 to take a mission course For several years she taught elsewhere and in 1900 she and the late M Copeland were married In 1916 she started regu lar work at Thornwell Orphanage which she is continuing until the present For 19 years Mrs Stone taught school in Anderson, her native home, starting her work in 1902 During World War I she received a leave of absence with the busi ness world and worked for three months in Greenville and was then i sent to Clinton where she w orked for the Southern Bell Telephone and I Telegraph Co until her retirement at the age of 65 She at once began work at Jacobs and Co., where she continued working for four years She married the late J. H. Stone. A native Clintonian. Mtss Essie Young began teaching in the city schools here in 1912 and taught until 1925, stopping work for several years during her mother's (Mrs J. W Young) illness Later she re turned to work and entered the business field where she worked until 1954 as cashier at the Broad way Theatre Miss Blakely also mentioned that as a part of the National B&PW Week program, safe driver awards were presented Fred Holcombe, Jr., son of Dr and Mrs. Fred Hol combe. and to Jane Milam, the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Dillard Milam It was mentioned that the club will sponsor the TB mobile unit here today and tomrrow, which is a project of the Laurens County TB Association. Members will assist at various hours. Charter members of the B&PW club, Miss Margaret Blakely. Mrs. Dan Yarborough, Mrs .1 J Wingo, and Mrs W W. Sloan of this city, director of industrial relations for Joanna Cotton Mills Co., who spoke on the “Presidential Elections and Differences Between the Two Can didates'’ He gave thumbnail sketches of the two candidates. Sen Kennedy and Vice-President Nixon, and discussed their family back grounds, education, marital status, war records, political careers, and records of public service. In summing up his remarks, Mr Sloan said, “I am sure that none present tonight could agree entirely with thd political views or philoso phies of either of these men, but it's our responsibility as good citizens to study their records, backgrounds, public pronouncements on domestic and international affairs and the platforms to which they are com mitted and then vote for what's best for you. your family, your community, your state and your country and for the man who will best lead the United States in the crucial da vs ahead Births SCHNEIDER Mr and Mrs Robert P.
