HOMER JACKS, Correspondent and Representative Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cash of Oowpens, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Dearl Borard. They also visited Mrs. Cash’s mother, Mrs. Helen Bozard, at th local hospital. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Swygert were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs Jack Bouknight in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Davis and chil dren of Camden, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Buford Low ery. Miss Doris Abrams of Greenville, spent a* week-end with her moth er and brother, Mrs. OUie Abrams, and Bruce. On Sunday Miss Doro thy Wicker of Pomaria, was a guest of the Abrams. They attended homecoming at the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. 1. E. Alexander and children were visitors in Green wood on Saturday and attended the fair. Mrs. Fred Bhagg. Sr., Mrs. Les ter Hair and Mrs. B. B. Smith at tended the singing convention in Spartanburg Saturday evening. Mir. and Mrs. Roy Boyce and Sam Boyce spent Sunday in Aiken with Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Boyce. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Powell and children of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Ruff of Saluda, Mr. and Mrs Avery Ruff and daughter, Mirs. Mary Graham, W. O. Ruff and Ovcar Ruff of Newberry, were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Lee Swygert. Dean of Philadelphia, Pa., were Thursday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Pitts and Bonnie. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Craft and children of Newberry, were Sunday guests of Mir. and Mrs. Cecil O’Dell. Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Daven port, Jr., and Ronnie were week end guests of Sgt. and Mrs. James Hollingsworth in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Brazil, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Murphy and Kathy,' Misses Becky and Martha Craven visited Mrs. Bertha Stroud at the Baptist hospital in Columbia Sunday. Mrs. L. J. Brock spent several days in Honea Path last week with her daughter, Mrs CurtisJackson, and Mr. Jackson. J. B. Johnson is a business visi tor in Atlanta, Ga., several days this week. Mrs. William J. Carter is spend ing several days this week in Char leston this week as the guest of her sister-in-law, Dr. Patricia Car ter. Mrs. Sallie Crocker of Whitmire, spent the weekend with her daugh ter, Mrs. John Gaskin, and Mr. Gaskin. Mrs. L. W. little, Sr., of Marsh- ville, N. C.. spent the week-end with her daughter, Mrs. George Morse, and Mr. Morse. Mrs. Mattie Stroud and children, Mr. and Mrs Ben Jester, Mrs. Clif ford Farmer, and William Nix vis ited Gey Stroud and Mrs. Emaline Nix in Columbia on Sunday. Members of the Joanna Teen- Age Club attended the Clinton-Lan- caster football game in Lancaster on Friday night. The group went in a group by Foundation bus. Mrs Clifton Hulsooback and son, Billy, spent several days in New berry last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Joe Johnson Friends of Mrs. Holsonback will regret to learn her mother is ill at her home Mis Kittle Mae Moseley was a Saturday visitor in Greenville Mr. and Mrs. John Foy of Elko, spent several days last week with Mr and Mrs. G. POTS HOLD FAMILY REUNION AT JOANNA CLUB HOUSE Deocendaali of the late Carrie Edwards Foy and John Barrington Foy of Salude County, met at the Joanna club house on Sunday, Oc tober 9, for their annual family re union. Fifty-six members were in attendance with representatives from South Carolina, Washington. D. C., and Leesburg, Fla. Bound copies of the family his tory, compiled by Crawford Foy of Columbia, treasurer, were given oi^t and a slight change was made in the organization setup. L. N. Foy of Greenville .oldest member of the immediate family, was nam ed “Head of the Clan” and this title will go automatically to the oldest living member as changes become necessary. Other elected officers for the coming year aire Mrs. Georgie Foy Fields of Elko, presi dent; Crawford Foy, secretary- treasurer. Dinner was served at 12:30 with Dr. Zed L. Foy giving the invo cation. One verse of “Blest Be The Tie That Binds’’ was sung as the group joined hands in a large cir cle. METHODIST WOMEN MEET Members of the Womans’ Society of Christian Service met on Tues day for Iheir October session, with Mrs. Lavinia Cooley presiding. Hie committees gave reports and the business at hand was discussed. The society will sponsor the Thanksgiving banquet for the Mal tese Cross Sub-District at a cost of S1.00 per plate. Miss Naomi Weir is Youth World Secretary. Hie program was presented by the chairman. Mrs. H. G. Murrah, Jr. The meditation was given by Mrs. J. L. Abrams, Hie topic was “Christian Citizenship — Hie Big Idea.'’ Mrs Murrah was assisted by four speakers. Mrs Lavinia Cooley, Mrs. C. R O’Dell, Mrs James Simpson and Mrs C. H. Godfrey. The hsotesses, Mrs. Rudy Prater and Mrs. John Gaskin served a salad plate, sandwiches cookies, and coffee DEEP SEA FISHING TRIP A group of Joannians and friends spent the week-end in Charleston and chartered a boat for a deep sea fishing excursion. Those making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. J L Abrams and family, Mr. and Mrs Curtis Salters and Cathy, Messrs A. B Culbertson, Hugh McCul lough. “Pap” Johnson, Alvin Counts and son, Terry Brown. Mr and Mrs. Byrd Davis WEEK OF FRAtKK AND SELF- DENIAL OBSERVED The Week of Prayer and Self-De nial program was observed at Ep- worth Methodist Church on Monday night, sponsored by the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Hie program theme was “Eager To Maintan The Unity of the Spirit in the Bond of Peace,” and was led by Mrs. J L. Abrams, chairman of Spiritual Life. Those making talks as contributions to the program were Mcsdames Floyd Abrams, Rudy Prater and Cecil O’Dell. At the close of the program an offer ing was taken to aid the work of Methodist women in foreign and home missions. CHICKEN STEW AT PICNIC SHELTER The adult Fellowship Sunday school class of Epworth Methodist Church will sponsor a chicken stew on next Friday, October 14 at the picnic shelter. Funds raised will be used for class expenses. R. H Frazier will cook the stew. It will be ready to sell at 5:00 p. m JOANNA WOMAN'S CLUB MEETS Hie Joanna Woman’s Club held the October meeting on Thursday, the 6th Mrs Lavinia Cooley, presi dent, welcomed each one and a special welcome to the guest of the occasion, the Joanna school faculty. Herman L. Shealy, principal of the school, introduced each teacher Mrs. Cooley extended a special wel come to Morton Hamm. Mr. Hamm is one of Joanna’s own sons and was added to the faculty this school year. A most worthy tribute was paid to G. N. Foy, who recent ly retired from his teaching profes sion and school activity career Business matters were briefly disposed of with the exception of making plans for the oncoming Thanksgiving project The Worn- an s Club will serve a turkey din ner with all the trimmings at the Joanna club house Thanksgiving day This dinner will be served to the public from 12 noon until 2:30 p. m. Tickets are on sale. Miss Ruth Hair had charge of the program and introduced Joseph L. Delany, soloist. Mr. Delany render ed two numbers and led the group in singing several selections. Refreshments of assorted sand wiches, cheese biscuits and punch were served by Mrs. Walter Byars and her group WITH THE MCK Mrs George Walter Fulmer is a patient at Hays hospital under going treatment. Mrs. Betty Brewington has been discharged from the local hospital ofllowing treatment. Mrs Virginia Gamer is recup- eralting at her home following sur- grey at the Joarma hospital. Mrs McNeil Trotter has been discharged from the local hospital following several days treatment. Mrs. Lula Gruber is a patient at the Joanna hospital undergoing treatment.
