Under the program, the company sets aside a portion c£ its profits each year for eligible employees. A portion of the fund isuiaid to em ployees in cash and thKbalance is credited to individual trusKaccounts for retirement benefits. It is estimated that an addition al $2 million dollars will be allocated to participants’ retirement accounts which, together with the cash pay ment will bring the firm’s total con tribution up to approximately $2, 750,000 for I960. The assets of tht retirement fund held by the trus tees now total over over $18,000. 000, Mr. Clary said. The employees themselves are not required to contribute any part of the coot of the program. “Our employees — through our Profit Sharing Program—ore given the opportunity to share in the prof Its they themselves help to create.” Mr. Clary pointed out “As a result of this program—to- getlier with low cost life, hospitali zation. surgical and accident Insur ance; college scholarships for em ployees' children, sick pay, stock purchase plan and other benefits— we are confident that we have one of the finest employee programs in the nation. “Through this overall policy, we feel that we are fulfilling the vital responsibility of providing for the present and future security of Winn- Dixie peo|)l6.’* L The company currentlly operates 513 retail stores and nine wholesale Cash and Carry units in South Car olina.
