McCullough , spent four days in Washington, D. ' C., last week visiting their son, .Earle McCullough, sightseeing and Attending the cherry blossom pa rade. Earle is an executive with the McCrory Stores. He will spend the next three weeks in Dover Dela ware, on business with the stores. Frank Young, student at the Medi cal College in Charleston, is spend ing the Easter hloidays with his mother, Mrs. Frank Young. Dr. James Wiggins, senior at the medi cal college, was a guest of Frank and Mrs. Young Saturday. George C. Adair, brother of Mrs. Young, visited them on Saturday also. Grady Bailey, stationed at Fort Jackson, is visiting his grandmoth er .Mrs. B. H. McCoig, Mr. and Mrs P. W. Barnes, Wilson and Kathy Barnes. Grady is a former resident of the community and a son of Mr and Mrs. George Bailey. Mrs. J. D. Bass and Mrs. W. D. Crocker were visitors in Greenville last week. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Murphy were Sunday guests of the latter’s aunt, Mrs. Joe Burgess. Mr .and Mrs. J. C Cannon were in ^Glenville, Ga., Sunday visiting Mr and Mrs. Grady Smiley, having been called there because of the critical illness of Mr. Smiley’s fath er. Bob Smiley. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Ray of Spar tanburg, visited the latter’s brother, J. O. Ray, and Mrs. Ray Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Wood were dinner guests of their daughter, Mrs. W. H. Adams, and Mr Adams on Easter Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bundrick and sons, Gwendell, perry and Dwight, visited their mother and grandmoth er. Mrs. Julian Keisler, at Gilbert, and Mr. Bundrick's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. D. McCullough. Mrs. Carson Neal was honored at a birthday dinner at the home of her mother, Mrs. C. M. Broome, last Sunday. Mrs. Neal’s daughter, Di anne, and Mr. Neal, Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCauley and small daugh ter’, Pamela, of Greenville, and Wil liam Thrift of Joanna, enjoyed the occasion. Nancy Adams of Columbia, spent the Easter holidays with her par ents, Mr .and Mrs. Walter Adams, and sister, Jane. Friends of Jimmie Bass will be interested to know he is back at work after being confined to his home for two weeks with mumps. Peggy Carnes, ^atsy Campbell and Jane Adams were among those who baked cakes for the cake auc tion held at Clinton High School last Thursday. The funds raised at the auction will be used to finance the junior-senior banquet held every spring at the school. Jane Adams was among those elected to the student council in the officers election held last week at Clinton High School. Jane ik the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H Ad ams and is an eleventh grade stu dent. MEET WITH MRS. YOUNG On Tuesday the women of Rock Bridge Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mrs. Frank Young. Mrs. Grover Mclnvaille, circle chairman, pfesided over the meet ing. Miss Viola Chandler gave an interesting talk on ‘Birthday Ob jectives." The offering taken at this time was donated to Stillman Col lege. New officers elected for 1960 were: President, Mrs. Grover Mc lnvaille; Vice-President. Mrs. Frank ^ Hays Is Promoted To Full Professor Belk Stores' r Great Church Leader William Henry Belk’s great inter est in prorpoting the Christian way of life was deep-seated. It was from forebears of deep religious feeling that the Belk brothers came. They were reared in a household where Christian tenet* were strictly up- Iheld, where John Calvin and John j Knox were heroes along with Robert E. Lee and Stonew all Jackson From the very start of his church membership, young Belk took a j hand in the promotion of its work | A devout member of the Presbyte rian Church, he also aided many churches of other denominations Through the John M. Belk Mem orial Fund he assisted more than 350 churches and manses in their building programs. He was also in terested in foreign missions and he and Dr. Belk established a hospital at Tai-Chow, China, known as the "Sarah Walkup Belk Memorial Hos pital" in honor of his mother. This remarkable woman, the source of much wise counsel and advice, lived to be 96, her death occurring in 1932. Today, Belk Chapel, a handsome building on the campus of Queens College, North Carolina, and the W. H. Belk Dormitory at Davidson, North Carolina, are performing use-; " ,U1 ful services in U.e memory <5 tlm latu ' r I ' ,are " ,s ’ Mr and Mrs outstanding merchant. They and the W. H. Belk Presbyteriah Church in Anderson, South Carolina, were built as permanent memorials in honor of Mr. BeHc by gifts from his business associates. The Belk Auditorium, now nearing completion on the Presbyterian Col lege campus, is yet another mem orial to this Southern merchant.
