' wm m * i • i & x ^ r\ ' y \ mmm t- - * V 1 « r Thornwells Nativity Scene Viewed by Many A live Nativity scene on the front of the Thornwell Orphanage campus for four nights during Christmas week drew the attention of hundreds who came to see the reenactment of the Bethlehem event. The scene consisted of the manger, Mary and Joseph and the angels, the shepherds, wise men and farm ani mals. ('hanging lights of varied hues added much to the scene. Background music was from the Robert Shaw al bum of Christmas hymns and carols. The presentation was under the direction of Miss Juliet McCrory, member of the Thornwell staff. The cast included boys and girls of the Thornwell family and was changed each night.—Photo by Dan Yarborough. Crisp At I^aurens—Phone 868 or 722 Police Chief Cole Dies At Cross Hill i Cross Hill—F Seymore Cole, 61, chief of police at Cross Hill, died at 8 a m. Monday at his home fol lowing a short illness. He was born at Cross Hill, a son of the late R. P. and Melissa Aus tin Cole. He spent his entire life in Cross Hill and was a member of Bethababara Baptist Church and a deacon and secretary of the Sun- 1 day school. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Car- rilu lusti Cole; one son, Frank Cole, of Columbia; one sister. Mrs. Rosa Cole, of Clinton; three broth ers. Hudson Cole, of Cross Hill; Marshall Cole, of Richmond, Va., and Wilbur Cole, of Slater, and one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at Bethabara Church Tuesday at 3 p. m by the Rev. H. E. Rodgers, the Rev. R. D. Neese, the Rev. W T . M Ussery and the Rev. J. B. Wells. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Cole, Tom Brown. Marshall Wilke, Boc Cole, Jack lusti, Billy Noffz, Webb Tay lor and James Steadman Birth Announcements GASKINS Mr and Mrs. Glenn D. PARRISH Mr. and Mrs. William Charles Parrish announce the birth of twins. Eddie Drew and Evie Lou, on December 22 at Hays Hospital. Mrs. Parrish is the former Miss Mar garet Atkins. Eastern Star Members Entertain With Covered Dish Supper A covered dish supper and Christmas party was given on Fri day evening, Dec. 18 by members of the Janies B. Parrott Chapter, | 1 Order Eastern Star with their hus- bands as invited guests. The Masonic hall was attractively , decorated in the Yuletide motif with a large lighted tree from which gifts wore exchanged. Min- 1 iature Christmas thees were placed at intervals along the tables. Carols and other Christmas music was en joyed following supper. PERSONAL MENTION Jim Nemeth of Lincoln Park, Mich., student at the University of South Carolina, is the guest of Ed Pitts Mr and Mrs. H. L. Baldwin and daughter, Betty Mae and Mrs. S. C. Dunlap are on a several days trip to Leesburg, Fla. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Black and son, Burler, Jr., of AUan ta; Mr. and Mrs. G. Arthur Black, Genie, Nancy, and Georgia of Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. W. Alex Black of Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Martin and Mary of Fountain Inn; and Mrs. Mary B. Lawter and Mary Cecil of Lawton, Ga. Frank Young, Jr., student at the Medical College of South Carolina, Charleston, is at home for the holi day season. Mrs. Morgan Todd spent the holi days in Abbeville with her brother, Joe Litle and niece, Mrs. Bill DuPre and family. Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Alexander and children of Newton, N. C., were visitors here during the holidays with his mother, Mrs. W. L. Ins- keep, and sister, Mrs. Weldon Jack- son. Friends of Mrs. Inskeep will be interested to know she plans to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Jackson and Mr. Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wilder and daugther, Sarah Louise of McCor mick, spent Christmas day with the former’s mother, Mrs. J. B. Wilder. Mrs. E. C. Culbreath of Charlotte, N. C., is visiting her mother, Mrs. O. I Shealy. Mrs. D. C. Heustess of the Ers- kine College staff, is spending the holidays at her home here. Miss Terrell Cook was the guest several days during the week of Miss Li'fin Tfammell in Darlington and Miss Deas Brunson in Camden, going especially to attend parties for several friends from Converse. Miss Helen Oeland, who teaches in Charleston, is here for the holi days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Oeland. Guests of the Oelands for Christmas Day included Mrs. Greg Galbraith, Miss Lettie Gal braith, Laetitia and John Galbraith of Spartanburg. Also arriving Christmas afternoon for a visit with her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Alexander and son of Bish- opville. The Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Darr spent Christmas Day in Charleston with their daughter, Mrs. W. W. Smith, and family. They were ac companied home for a few days visit by the Smith and another dau ghter, Mrs. Jimmy Hahn, and Mr. Hahn of Lakeland, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Dugan of Sum ter, and grandson, Michael Oates, of Hartsville, were recent visitors of Mrs. Dugan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Neighbors. AIRMAN BIGBEE HOME A3C Clyde Bigbee, Jr., of the U. S. Air Force, Amarillo, Texas, is spending a 15-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Big bee. Following his leave he will re port to Travis AFB, California, where has been assigned. Rock Hill schools, is spending the Christmas holidays at her home. Miss Naomi Crapps, a student at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, is spending her Christmas vaca tion at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earle Crapps. C HRISTMAS DINNER GIVEN On Saturday evening, Dec. 19 at 17 o’clock in the Shady Grove Com munity Club house members of Fairview Baptist Church gathered for the Christmas social. The invo cation was given by Rev. J. W. Spil- lers of Calvary Baptist Church. Following the invocation a turkey dinner was served. Mr. Spillers led the congregation in a devotional period followed by a social hour. During this period gifts were exchanged.
