on Tuesday morning by I. G. Via,
deputy commissioner, South Caro
lina Department of Labor.
The engraved certificates, signed
Governor Ernest F. Rollings, were
received on behalf of the employees

Telephone Tower at Start of Construction Monday — It’s Higher Now
Here is a view of the tow’er being: erected on a lot off South Broad
Street by the Southern Bell Telephone Comparty. It shows early stages of
construction Monday afternoon when about fifty feet of the steel frame-

foot level had been reached. It is estimated that four or five weeks will l*e
required to erect the 300-foot tower, which is one of a series in this section

ner Construction ( ompany of Fort \Va.\ne, Indiana, is building the Clinton
project, which daily attracts many viewers as the crewmen scamper a!>out
the steel framework as they put it together.
The photo at right is the 30x30-foot building on the same lot which
will house controls and equijmient for operation of the tower. The small
building will be incorporated as a unit of the new telephone exchange build
ing for Clinton, construction on which will liegm in the near future.

A group of Clinton’s Community
Chest leaders will gather this mor
ning at 11 o’clock to confer with Don
Clough, field director for Carolinas
United.
The session will be held at the of
fices of the Clinton Paper Box Co.

Community Chest organization, and
John Mimnaugh is 1959 campaign
chairman.

rneeting is to make plans for the
rend-raising drive in the fall.

posed were Bagwell, Leatherwood
and Pitts. Motion was carried by a
vote of the mayor. Pitts stated that
he was absent when the probationer
was elected and therefore had no
part in naming him.
