Stewarts Honored
While Visiting Here
, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Stewart and
daughter. Ellen, of Malverne, Long
Island, N. Y., with the. latter’s
niece, Rose Marie Lepera, of Green
lawn. Long Island, have been visit
ing the former’s mother. Mrs. Lila
» C. Stewart and other relatives.
Presently they are spending a few
days in Tampa and will return for
a short stay here enroute home.
Part of the time they spent at the
Cane Creek Fishing Club lodge on
Lake Greenwood.
Monday evening Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas P. Owens, Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas R. Owens gave a water
melon slicing for the visitors.
Wednesday they were guests of
Mrs. R. C. Stewart for lunch, and
in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Furman
Ott of Laurens were hosts for a
cook-out. They were also guests of
the Otts in Laurens on Friday for
dinner.
4 Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Stewart entertained at supper.

Simpsonville For
Miss Simmons
Miss Barbara Simmons who will
be married August 9 to Toby Hun
ter, of Simpsonville, was compli
mented on July 12 when Miss Eu
genia Hunter, a cousin of the groom-
elect, entertained with a drop-in at
the social hall of the Simpsonville
Baptist Church.
About 80 friends and relatives of
the groom and his family from that
section were invited to meet Miss
Simmons. Her mother, Mrs. C. E.
v Simmons, and sister, Miss Joyce
Simmons, were also guests for the
party.
The bride-elect was presented a
corsage to wear for the occasion.

of a son, Larry Paul, on July 2S at
Hays hospital, Formerly Mrs.
Thomas was Miss Mary Stevens.

nounce the birth of a daughter, San
dra Gail, on July 26 at Blalock Clin-
* ic. Mrs. Cooper is the former Miss
Corinne Sanders.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Godwin of
Laurens, announce the birth of a
daughter on July 27 at Blalock Clin
ic. Before marriage Mrs. Godwin
was Mias Bdl Owens.
July Meeting of
A. R. P. Bible Class
The July meeting of the Ladies
Bible Class of the Associate Re
formed Presbyterian Church was
held on Monday evening at the
church. Mrs. John Carter, Mrs.
Omer Bolt, Mrs. Sidney Bryson and
Mrs. Lawrence Lanfird were hos
tesses.
Mrs. Marvin Turner was program
leader and discussed a chaper, “En
courage Yourself,” from the study
booklet.
Later a social hour was enjoyed
by the 16 members attending and
the hostess served a salad plate,
cake squares and punch.
Luncheon Given
For Miss Jane Todd
A bridesmaids luncheon was giv
en on Saturday for Miss Jane Todd
whose wedding took place Sunday
by Mrs. Jack W. Anderson, Mrs.
Jack Red and Miss Jennie Red at
the R. G. Murphy home.
Covers were laid for 14 guests
which included the bridal atten
dants, the bride's mother and the
groom’s mother. Centering the
luncheon table was a crystal and
silver container of pink gladioli and
lilies. Wedding bell place cards were
used and a mantle arrangement of
pale pink double althea was in the
same motif. Elsewhere in the re
ceiving rooms gladioli and other
Summer flowers were arrayed.
A corsage of pink lilies and china
in her chosen pattern were the hos
tesses gifts to the bride-elect.
Abbeville Visitor
Honored at Party
Honoring Mrs. W. S. DuPre, of
Abbeville, who was the house guest
of her aunt, Mrs. Morgan Todd, a
few days last week, Mrs. W. B.
Owens and Mrs. Jodie A. Chandler
entertained with a bridge party on
Thursday morning at the Owens
home.
Guests were invited for three ta
bles for the morning games follow
ing which a salad and sweet course
were served. A variet of colorful
garden flowers decorated the card
rooms.
Mrs. R. C. Adair was winner of
high score prize.

Birthday Party
Jenny Copeland Hollis, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hollis, Jr.,
observed her eighth birthday on
Thursday, July 23.
In celebration of the occasion she
invited eight little girl friends for a
cookout at her home on West Main
street. Individual cakes were served
following the picnic supper and the
little girls were given candy favors

Shower Fetes Bride
Prior to Marriage
A kitchen shower was given for
Mass Jane Todd prior to her mar
riage by Mrs. R L. Plaxico and
Mrs. R. L. Plaxico, Jr., at the home
of the former, with 20 guests invited.
A pink and white color note was
used throughout for the party. Sum
mer flowers in shades of pink were
used in the reception hall and gar
denias were arranged for the living
room mantel. In the dining room
where refreshments were served in
buffet style the table was appointed
with a white linen cut work cloth
and the centerpiece was a miniature
tree fashioned of white net and
adorned with pink ribbons and flow
ers topped with love birds. The
menu also carried out the chosen
party color scheme. Mrs. W. B.
Tribble and Miss Nannie Young
Tribble assisted the hostesses in the
courtesies of entertaining.
Contests were enjoyed and the
gifts presented the bride-elect. She
was also remembered with a cor
sage.
Mrs. Frank Martin, Jr., of Laur
ens, aunt of the honoree, was present

At Rehearsal Party
Wedding attendants, out-of-town
guests and members of the imme
diate families were entertained on
Saturday evening following the re
hearsal for the Todd-Jones wedding.
Hosts for the occasion were Mr.
and Mrs. L. Judson Brehmer, Mr.
and Mrs. J. Frank Martin, Jr., of
Laurens with the party being given
at the Brehmer home here at 604
South Adair St.
The receiving rooms were beauti
fully decorated throughout with
roses, asters, cleome, Surprise lilies
and zinnias in artistic array.
In the dining room a bridal green
and white motif was carried out in
the appointments and refreshments.
Fancy sandwiches, hors d’ o^ivres,
and other party dainties were
served with cake squares in buffet
style. TTie punch bowl was placed
at one end with a floral arrange
ment on the other.
Guests in addition to members of
the wedding party were: Mr and
Mts. J. Paul Todd and daughter.
