will sell at public outcry to the high
est bidder, either in or in front of
the Court House, at Laurens C. H .
S. C., on Salesday in June next,
being Monday, the 1st day of the
month, during the legal hours for
such sales, the following described
property, to wit:
All that piece, parcel and lot of
land situate, lying and being at the
Northeast corner of the intersection
of Woodrow and Centennial Streets,
in the City of Clinton, County of Lau
rens. State of South Carolina, con
taining a fraction of an acre, bound-
ed on the North by lands now or
formerly of Dr. S. C. Hays, on the
East by lot of C. W, Hogan and
Esther Hogan, on the South by East
Centennial Street, and on the W’est
by Woodrow Street, and having lo
cated thereon the residence of the
late Dr. and Mrs. F. K. Shealy, a
garage apartment used in connection
therewith, and a five-room tenant
house which was formerly used by
Dr F. K. Shealy as an office.
TERMS OF SALE: Cash. The suc
cessful bidder, other than the plain
tiff herein, immediately upon the
conclusion of the bidding, shall de
posit with the Clerk of Court the
sum of 10 per cent as a guarantee
of his good faith in the bidding. The
same to be applied to the purchase
price upon complying with the
terms of sale, otherwise to be paid
to Plaintiff for credit on the indebt
edness In the event the successful
bidder should fail to make such de
posit. or should fail to comply with
the terms of sale, the said lands
shall be re-sold on the same or some
subsequent Salesday on the same
terms, at risk of the defaulting pur
chaser.

After hearing and reading the tes
timony for and against confirmation
of Adm. Lewis Strauss to be Sec
retary of Commerce, my conscience
dictates that I should support his
nomination in Committee and on the
Senate floor. This great public ser
vant has ably served in the admin
istration of Presidents Wilson, Roos
evelt. Truman, and Eisenhower and
as personal secretary to Herbert,
Hoover prior to his selection as
President. I feel that Admiral
Strauss has refuted the charges
which have been made against him.
It seems to me that whatever dif
ferences exist are concerned pri-1
marily w ith matters of judgment,
or even differences in basic phi
losophy. If the nominee has erred—
and I am not convinced that he has,
although I realize that no human is
perfect—it has been on the side of
security for our nation, for which,
in my opinion, he should be com
mended, rather than condemned.
Much of the controversy over the
Admiral's nomination has centered
around his original lone-wolf stand
on the Atomic Energy Commission
in favor of developing the H-bomb
ahead of Russia, his vote with a ma
jority of the Gray Board and the
A EC to cancel security clearance
to Dr. Robert Oppenheimer. and
his opposition at one time to the
overseas shipment of radioactive
isotopes which he felt might possibly
be used in some manner against our
country since adequate supervision
was not provided for in the pro
posal
