meet Monday afternoon, January
26, at 3:30 at the home of Mrs
George Bellinrath. Co-hostesses will

The program will be on planting
and care' of house plants.

three tables of bridge on Tuesday
, afternoon of the past week at her
home on Maple street.
Yellow gladioli and greenery
adorned the card rooms. Between
progressions sandwiches and sweets
were enjoyed. At the conclusion of
the games prizes were presented
Mrs. Chris Adair, Jr., and Mrs.
Reese H. Young.
Club Program To
Be On Puerto Rico
Members of the Century Club
met on Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. W. R. Anderson, Jr.
The dub is using for study a se
ries of programs on regions admin
istered to by the United States gov
ernment. Mrs. W. R. Turner gave a
history of Puerto Rico since 1898
when Spain ceded sovereignty of
the island to the United States and
pointed out progress made under
the administration of our govern
ment.
Club Symposium
In Columbia Jan. 29
The Garden Club Symposium for
South Carolina will be held in Co
lumbia on Thursday, January 29.
The symposium will begin with a
coffee at the Russell House at 9:30
and other features will include a
luncheon and lectures during the
day on growing and arranging
flowers.
January Is Wesleyan
Service Guild Month
January has been designated as
“Wesleyan Service Guild Month” by
the Womans Society of Christian
Service of the Methodist Church.
The Broad Street Church Guild
met on Tuesday evening at the
home of Mrs. L. H. Davidson with
Mfs. Joe Edwards, president, pre
siding. Miss Mary Frances Pinson,
assisted by Mrs. L. O. Edwards,
presented the program on “Rekind
ling the Gift.”
In observance of special Guild
month the local guild placed flow
ers on the altar of the church Sun
day.
During the business session plans
were made for a membership drive
in February. A sunshine fund was
started with Mrs. Weldon T. Jack-
son as chaiVman.
Mrs. Joel E. Cannon, who will be
guild coordinator with the W. S. C.
S., was a guest for the meeting.
At the close of the evening a so
cial hour and refreshments were
enjoyed.

Jean Wolfe Observes
Her 4th Birthday
Jean Wolfe, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James E. Wolfe, was four
years old Saturday, January 17. In
celebration of the occasion she in
vited ten little girls and boys, nur
sery school and neighborhood play
mates for a party on Monday after
noon.
Mrs. Wolfe was assisted in serv
ing and entertaining the little folk
with indoor games by Jean’s grand
mothers, Mrs. H. H. Wheeler and
Mrs. E. C. Wolfe of Laurens.

held pink candles in little girl hold
ers. Other table and party appoint
ments included colored crepe paper
streamers and balloons to effect a
circus motif.
Col. Wingord Speaks
At Auxiliary Meet
Col. B. F. Wingard was the guest
speaker for the January meeting
of the American Legion Auxiliary
held Tuesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. W. C. Baldwin.
Col. Wingard gave an interesting
and informative talk on “Defense.”
A March of Dimes film was! shown
by Ellis Huffstetler. Mrs. Nene D.
Workman was program chairman
for the afternoon.
Members brought gifts for a sun
shine basket to send to Perry A.
Moore, who is a patient at the Vet
erans hospital, Oteen, N. C.
During the social hour which fol
lowed the program the hostesses
served sandwiches, cookies, hot tea
and toasted nuts. Assisting Mrs.
Baldwin were Mrs. Ansd Godfrey,
Mrs. R. W. Johnson, Mrs. Thomas
Baldwin, Mrs. T. J. Leake, Mrs.
Henry M. Young, Mrs. Ed Sadler
and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy.
Red gladioli were effectively used
in decoration for the meeting rooms.
Guest Vocalist For
Music Club Meeting;
Recital Is Planned
At the January meeting of the
Clinton Music Club on Wednesday
afternoon of the past week members
heard Miss Evelyn Martin, soprano,
of Greenwood. Mrs. Harry Mc-
Sween, assisted by Mrs. Frank
Fowler and Mrs. Joel E. Cannon,
was hostess for the meeting.
Miss Martin, accompanied at the
piano by Miss Lou Ellen Hucks,
sang four operatic arias.
Guests were invited for tea into
the dining room following the pro
gram. The tea table was beautifully
appointed with lavender gladioli ar
ranged in a brass compote with
grapes shading from purple to lav
ender-pink at the base.
During the business session plans
were made for the club to sponsor
a piano duo concert on February
20 at the Thomwell auditorium. A
varied program will be presented
by Miss Betty Bullock of Hamlet,
N. C., and Graham Farrel of Aber
deen, N. C. Both are pupils of Mrs.
Walter P. Jones, Jr., of Rocking
ham, who formerly taught music
at Agnes Scott College. Mr. Far
rell is a brother of Mrs. C. W. Ho
gan of this city.
The public is invited to attend the
concert for whch a small admission
will be charged. Proceeds will be
used for the club's music scholar
ship fund.
Lominack-Arthur
Rites Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Lominack
of Newberry, announce the mar
riage of their daughter, Martha, to
Pvt. Glenn Arthur of Newberry and
Foil Monmouth, N. J., on Decern-
ber 24.
The bride is the granddaughter of
Mrs. Ernest Chaney of this city. Her
mother was before marriage Miss
Mattie Chaney.
Little Girl
Observes Birthday
On Thursday afternoon. Judy Bag-
well was honored on the occasion of
her ninth birthday with a party at
the home of her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. George Bagwell on West Main
Street.
Nancy Bagwell and Myrtle Wil
liams directed games for the 21 in
vited guests. Later cold drinks,
cookies, ice cream and other party
dainties were served. The three tier
cake, iced in white and decorated
in pink held cow girl candles.
Also assisting Mrs. Bagwell were
Mrs. H. F. Herbert and Mrs. Irvin
McDowell, of Laurens.
