Dead Man
Found
In Woods
The body of a man identified as
Walter Sledz was found by hunters
last Thursday on a bed of papers
and boxes beside a tree stump in a
wooded area near Lakeside Country
Club.
Deputy Wesley Fowler, who was
notified by John Brewington. one of
the hunters, said the man’s body
was found about noon 200 yards off
heavily traveled Highway 76 be
tween Clinton and Laurens. He said
the man had attempted to make a
bed of papers and boxes and had
removed his shoes.
The only identification on his per
son was a 1955 check voucher bear
ing the name of Walter Sledz, Wheel
er Restaurant, 6801 E. 28th St.,
Minneapolis. Minn.
For several days the identity of
the man was undetermined, but by
an odd coincidence, records in the
Laurens County sheriff’s office pro
vided the solution. Sheriff C. W
Wier said.
The man had been arrested in
1938 by county officers for investi
gation and hu finger prints were
discovered in the county files At
that time the Sheriff stated, the
