three divisions.

serving as flower show chairman

Mrs. Gus Burton;, judges, Mrs.
Gary Dillard; judges clerks, Mrs.
Robert L. Plaxico, Jr.; publicity,
; Mrs. Lynn Cooper, Jr.; hospitality.
Mrs. George H. Ellis; tickets, Mrs.
F. V. Smith; clean-up, Mrs. James
' Traynham.
The arrangements and horticul
ture classes are open to all ama
teur gardners and all exhibits must
be in between 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.
on Tuesday morning. Only one en
try was made in a class and all
containers must be marked on the
bottom with the owner’s name.
Flowers used in arrangement class
es must be arranged by but not be
grown by the exhibitor. Foliage
may be used in all arrangement
classes. Horticulture entries must
be grown by exihibitor, with en
tries brought in plain milk or drink
bottles.
Doors will be open to the public
between 3:00 and 9:00 p. m.. and
judging will take place between 1:00
and 3:00 p. m
Division 1 arrangements will in-
* elude School Days, Come to the
Fair, Halloween, and llianksgiving
bounties, with a number of classi
fications under each section

Honored On Birthday
Honoring her mother. Mrs W L
Inskeep on the occasion of her birth
day, Mrs Weldon Jackson enter
tamed with a surprise party Fridas
evening, the 26th, at Mrs Inskeep's
home on Cleveland street
Gladioli and chrysanthemums in
keeping with the pink and white
color motif were arranged in dec
oration. A number of floral ar
rangements were gifts from friends
to the honoree Bingo was played
and later the birthday cake was
cut and served with lime ice and
salted nuts. Mrs. Jackson was as
sisted in entertaining and serving by
Mrs. L. O. Edwards.
Twelve friends enjoyed the oc
casion.
Gordenettes Work On
Flower Arranging
Mrs T C. Johnson. Jr, was
guest speaker for the September
meeting of the Gardenette* cluh
held on Monday, the 22nd, at the
home of Mrs. John T Adair
The meeting was devoted to
work toward the fundamentals of
flower arranging in preparation for
the .October flower show by the
city Garden Chibs. Each member
brought an arangement and Mrs
Johnson, after speaking on the
chosen subject, gave constructive^
criticism on the arrangements
Later in the afternoon Mrs. Adair,
and the co-hostess, Mrs. Earl Pitts,;
served refreshments.
Visitors Entertained
At Lakeside Cottage
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Cauthen of
Chicago, 111., who have been vis
iting relatives in Greenville, were
entertained on Sunday with a picnic
dinner at the cottage of Mr. and
Mrs. G. C. Suber on Lake Green
wood.
Enjoying the delightful occasion
were: Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Cauthen
of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. H. C.
Suber, Mrs. A. C. Workman and
children, Mr and Mrs. James Dorn-
inick, and William of Joanna, Mrs.
V. C. Crapps and Rosemary of
West Columbia.
Little Girl
; Celebrates Birthday
Little Starr Callaway, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Gallaway,
celebrated her second birthday
Tuesday afternoon with a. birthday
party at the home of parents
on South Owens street.
During the afternoon the Calla
ways served ice cream- and cake
and presented each little guest with
favors of horns and balloons.

September 19 for a first-hand look at overseas conditions affecting
