Dedication ceremonies will be
held at Clinton’s Mercer Silas Bai
ley School on Elizabeth Street Sun
day, October 5, at 3:30 p. m
“Open House” continuin« to 5:30
p m will follow the dedication.
Hie modern, fireproof structure
was completed in August at a cost
of $255,000 The elementary school |
has 532 students D. S Templeton,
principal, heads a staff of 16 teach
ers.

The school was named in honor
of Mercer Silas Bailey on request
of the Parent-Teacher Association
The new school replaced the now
razed Academy Street School buiP
in the late 1800 s.
Mr Bailey was a prominent pio
neer Cotton lien merchant, banker,
textile manufacturer, and philan
thropist He was founder and first
president of M S Bailey A Son.

dedication ceremonies and “open house" will take place. The public
is invited to attend and make a tour of the commodious olant that
