Revolutionary rhangea In the
watch Industry the past decade are
equal to or surpass those tn the au

This was the statement of J C.
Thomas, of TV)mas Jewelers, who
will participate in the eleventh an
nual ’ Watch Parade Time” along
with Hamilton’s Jewelers, also of
Clinton, and 30.000 jewelers through
out the country beginning Monday,
October 6. »
This nationwide accent an watch*
er is an effort to make people aware
that styling in quality timepieces
is really new today, and so are
the mechanical features which keep
advancing from year to year.
For instance, for women, there’s
the homemaker's watch and the
businesswoman’s watch. The for
mer types are tightly sealed to re
sist the cold of refrigerator, the
dampness of doing dishes and the
jolts and jars of housework. And
watches for the career girl have
high fashion good looks appropriate
for any daytime office or soaial
activity.
Mr. Thomas went on to point out
that many ladies’ models now come

concerned.’’ he said, “the new
shapes, materials and colors make
a watch as much of a jewelry ac
cessory for the well dressed woman
as it is a timepiece.”
The Clinton jeweler cited some
of the technological advances made
during past year* by the jeweled-
lever watch industry in developing
watches for many occupational and
pleasure needs—watches whose per
formance is as amazing as the most
complicated machinery being used
today
These include chronograph wrul
watches for split second taing and

THE UNITED WAY
in a county that does not have the
high per-acre money value crops
like peaches, tobacco and truck,
where it is taking hold even faster.
Lloyd of Edgefield, tells me 90
per cent of their peaches are now
irrigated. And Martin of Spartan
burg, the big peach county, says
it looks like it is a matter of irri
gate or get out of the business. For
those recurring droughts get ’em
too often without it.
And our tobacco man, J. M. Lew
is, tells me a lot of tobacco farmers
now insure their stands and har
vests with irrigation water as need-
ed.
This crop insurance, irrigation, is
coming to corn, cotton, and pas
tures, too, at places already. My
guess is we will ventually be irri
gating all we go to the trouble
and expense to plant. That is, if it
needs it. It is great insurance io

make a crop. And along comes
drought and threatens to take it
from you. It often will, too, unless
you have the insurance that irriga
