recall one time absent-mindedly
crossing a downtown street in the
middle of the block. I didn’t look.

and there was a car almost on me.
The driver glared at me, com
menced muttering, and opened his
mouth to give me a lecture. I
quickly walked over to him, ex
tended my hand, and said, “I’m
sorry. I’m just one of those absent-
