He had an in teresting start in life. His father, Adeyemi Alowolodu, is the crown ed head of Oyo. chief of 2,500,000 nature worshipping Yorubas in Ni geria. Africa. His uncle, the Rev erend N. O. Salako. a Methodist preacher, is now superintendent of the church's Ibadan circuit, in the same country. This uncle drove Ad- die to read t h e Bible straight and Mike Coo through at the a«e of U am told him, "Moke yourartf uaeful In the world ' With this background and urge, plus the fact that be weot through grammar and high schools operat ed by American Southern Baptist Missions in Nigeria, Addie made his mark and his money on the TV show, "The $64,000 Question." Besides a great deal of studying and memorizing the Bible, Addie, who is 30 years old, has read it straight through four times—the first two in his native Yarubo lang uage, then in a Revised English Version, then in the King James Version. He figures he has memo rized some part of 60 of the 66 books of the Old and New Testa ments He is now . continuing his study by taking a Bible dictionary, selecting names, and reading ev erything in the Bible about those names. Hr wanted to study medicine at the University ui Chicago and be figured be might finance himself on the TV qtdz show. He has. He plans to get his M.D. degree in 3 years, and then return to Nigeria to establish a hospital and, as his uncle advised, "make yourself useful." Bible study has certainly paid off for Addie. It pays off for anyone who will undertake it. It will do so in many ways: better use of Eng lish; better ability to study; better attitude; better health; better per sonal relations; a better job; a bet ter life; and above all, personal salvation. The educational and therapeutic value of the Bible is tremendous. It goes without saying that it offers an excellent course in proper and correct speech. It is even better as the fop book in psychology and human relations. All the humas life which face man or woman laday are there laid out, discussed, run through the laboratory of human experience It gives all the anti dotes for sin and what goes with sin. Finally,, there is no better treat ment for dealing with negative thinking and emotional disturb ances which come from It. Repeatedly we have recommend ed in this column the memorizing of scripture promises which can be brought into quick action when our thinking goes wrong and we be come angry, agitated, impatient, or depressed. You can start your course now. Read the four Gospels and the book of Psalms. Do so with a pencil and paper, making an alphabetical list of promises which you discover in your reading. Get that Bible down off the shelf and put It to dally use.
