Represent County
In Spelling Bee
The Laurens County Spelling Bee
to determine a first place winner to
participate in the State Bee, which
is to be held at Anderson College on
May 7, was held in the Laurens
Central Eeletnentary School on Sat
urday. ' , .
Twelve schools were represented
by contestan’s from the elementary
and junior high schools. Schools
and the respective contestants were:

by Alicia Hickman, daughter of|
Rev. and Mrs. Victor Hickman, of
Laurens.
Prizes of $10 00, $7 50 and $5.00,
respectviely, were given the winners
by the Laurens County Board of
Education. In addition all contes
tants received a gift from the Lau
rens Colonial Stores.

Bee was under the directino of Mrs.

Enters National Contest
Mountville Grange No 632 has
entered the 1958 National Commu
nity Service Contest which -is spon
sored by the National Grange and
Sears-Roebuck Foundation for the
purpose of developing better rural
communities. ,
Two main community projects
have been voted upon by the Mount
ville Grange for the year. They are
namely the redeemating of the hall
and the improvement and beautiifi-
cation of the Mountville. community
cemetery. Committee chairmen
have been appointed and work plans
outlined.
All members met Saturday after
noon, March 22, for work. Shrubs
which were donated by the mem
ber* were planted at the hall, clean
ing and painting was also started In
side; clearing around the cemetery
was begun. Later other work days
will be set aside to continue the pro
jects. ’
The youth of the Grange have un
dertaken the painting of the hall fur
niture as their part of the contest.
They met on the evening of March
