D. Pitts, Mrs. Robert Edwards and Mrs. James Braswell entertained at luncheon on Saturday at the Mary Musgrove Hotel. Using a green and white motif the luncheon table was adorned with a floral arrangement of glad ioli and carnations and white wed ding bells placed on wide green satin ribbon. A three-course lunch eon was served. The honoree was presented a cor sage to wear for the occasion. Out of town guests included Mrs. Charles Patterson of Laurens; Mrs. James Berry of Fork Shoals, sis ters of the bride; Miss Barbara Mi lam of Greenville; Mrs. H. M. Reid of Spartanburg; and Mrs. Annie Fleidner of Little Mountain. —Portrait by Dan Yarborongh MRS. CECIL CONWAY GOODE, JR. Engagement MISS MARTHA DAILEY UNITED WITH CECIL CONWAY GOODE, JR. On Sunday at 3:30 in the after noon Dr. William Redd Turner offi ciated at the marriage of Miss Mar tha Dailey and Cecil Conway Goode, Jr., at the home of the bride and her family at 700 E. Ferguson St. Vows were exchanged before a mantle decorated with yellow and white spring flowers. Neil and Joe Dailey, brothers of the bride, liight- ed candles. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Parker Dailey, the bride was attended by Miss Patricia Wal thall, of Nashville. Tenn. Her fath er gave her in marriage. Miss Walthall wore for the service a day-length dress of mauve antique taffeta with matching satin cum merbund and bandeau. She carried a small bouquet of French heather and carnations. The bride wore a ballerina-length gown of white silk shantung made with illusion yoke. Her small satin hat featured a butterfly veil and she carried bride’s’ roses. Mr. Goode, whose parents'live in Boiling Springs, N. C., was atteod- ed by his father. After the service a reception was held at the home. For a wedding trip Mrs. Goode selected a gray flannel suit with black and gray accessories. She and her husband will be at home in Leitchfield, Ky., after March 17. Mrs. Goode received a bachelor of science in dietetics from Win- throp College and until recently was employed at dietition in research at Vanderbilt Medical School in Nash ville, Tenn Mr. Goode is a graduate of North Carolina State College. He is farm service advisor with the Warren Rural Electrical Cooperative in Bowling Green, Ky. Miss Barbara Milam, Bride-Elect, Honored Miss Barbara Milam of Green ville and Clinton, was compliment ed on Saturday evening when Mrs. James Braswell and Mrs. Robert Edwards entertained in her honor with a linen shower at the Clinton Mills Community House. Miss Mi lam will be married on April 8 to Jerry Earle Davis of Greenville. A St. Patrick’s Day theme was beautifully carried out in the party appointments. Green tapers and white wedding bells emoplimented the arrangement of carnations and gladioli for the buffet refreshment table in the dining room. A number of appropriate games were enjoyed and in addition to the shower of linen gifts the hostesses remembered Miss Milam with a corsage. Assinting the hostesses were Mrs. C. D. Pitts. Mrs. Billy Pitts, Mrs. J. K. Haselden, and Mrs. Jack Pitts Wednesday Club Is Entertained The Wednesday dub- wa^ enter tained the past weeTat the home of Mrs. Murphey Timmerman with a dessert bridge. Bowls of daffodils prettily deco- ratea the card rooms where two tables were laid for refreshments. At the conclusion of the progressions prizes were presented Mrs. Frank Ramage and Mrs. Harry Baldwin Sara Glenn Circle With Mrs. Watkins The Sarah Glenn Circle of Broad Street Meehodist Church met Mon day evening at the home of Mrs., Howard Watkins with Mrs Jodi$ C, ( McMillan and Miss Sara Stone as sistant hostesses. Mrs. Louise Hilton was program chairmarT for'thd evening and was assisted by Mrs. Kenneth Hazelton who gave the devotional and pray er, followed by the Bible study on the Gospel of St Mark by Mrs. T. J. McCarty. A short business session followed. The hostesses served a salad course with Russian tea. MISS CAROLYN GAIL NORMAN Miss Norman To Wed Mr. Reid Mr. and Mrs. Ray Allen Norman, of 20 W. Circle Ave., Greenville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Carolyn Gail Nor man, to Richard Jenkins Reid, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Richard Reid, of 6 Beverly Ave. Miss Nor man, a graduate of Greenville High School, is a medical secretary at Whitten Village in Clinton; Mr. Reid is a student at Presbyterian Col lege. The wedding will take place early in June. * Honor Mrs. McCaslan With Informal Tea Mrs. Josie McCaslan, who left this week to make her home in Spartanburg where she has been promoted to chief operator with Southern Bell, was honored with a lovely tea by the girls in the traffic department Friday afternoon at the office. Punch, sandwiches, and other dainties were served from a pret tily appointed table Mrs. McCaslan was remembered with a gift and a corsage. Lutheran Women In March Meeting The March meeting of the Unit ed Lutheran Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. C. O. Ki- nard in Joanna, with Mrs. J. E. Boyce assistant hostess. “America’s Younger Churches” was the topic of the program which was led by Mrs. C. C. Smith, as sisted by several other members. During the social hour a salad plate was served. Quoife-McLendoa Rites In Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Ben Quaife, of New Providence, Iowa, announce the marriage of their daughter, Susan, to Wayne C. McLendon of this city The wedding was held in the First Methodist Church, Waukegan, III, on February 22. The Rev. Harold McElvany officiated at the double ring ceremony. Miss Inge'Pram- schiefer and Pfc. Percy Schlichting of the U. S. Army attended the couple. Mrs. McLendon is a graduate of New Providence High School and holds a secretarial position in Chi cago. Mr. McLendon, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McLendon of this city, is a graduate of Clinton High School. Immediately following his gradua tion in May 1954 he joined the Navy and at present Is stationed at Great Lakes, III, where he is attending school. ITie young couple will reside at 4735 N. Beacon in Chicago. Miss Johnson Gives Book Review at Meet “A South Carohnian Speaks” was reviewed by Miss Mary Johnson for the program at the March meeting of the Stephen D. Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confeder acy. The meeting was held Thurs day evening at the home of Mrs Frank Miller, with Mrs. T. J. Leake, Mrs John Griffin Pitts, and Mrs. W. A. Moorhead as assistant hostesses. At a recent meeting of the Ridge district in Greenwood two local members were elected to office. Mrs. P. M. Pitts was elected dis trict president and Mrs. G. A Bur ton, recording secretary. Assorted sandwiches, cookies, and tea were served during a social hour following the program and business session. Arrangemnets used in decoration included red and white carnations and grapes artistically combined with greenery. Methodist Circles Hove Meetings The circles of Broad Street Meth odist Church will meet Monday, March 17, at 3:30 as follow's: The Barden circle, Mrs J. V. C MRS. HOLLEY Miss Prather and Mr. Holley Marry In a service at 5 p. m March 8 at Warrior Creek Baptist Church Miss Violet Ruth Prather was married to Charles Levi Holley, with the Rev C. C. Baker officiating. Mrs. Jessie Lee Poole served as musician for the ceremony, and church decorations consisted of gladioli and snapdragons along with candles and palms, with pink as the predominating color. Ushers included Charles Ronald Penland, of Simpsonville; Thomas Alvin Cooper and Postelle Hughes. Derril Owens Whitmire, of Joanna, served as best man. Mr. Holley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Levi Holley, of 227 Browning Ave. in Joanna, and his bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edmond Prather, Rt. 2, Gray Court. She was given in marriage by her father. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Charles Ray Penland, of Simpsonville, as matron of hon or, and by Mrs. Ira Jack Prather, of Laurens, her sister-in-law. They wore pastel pink chiffon dresses with taffeta lining, floating chiffon pan els' and shirred Empire bodices. Their flqwers were nosegays of pink carnations. • Miss Joy King, of Simpsonville, was flower girl, wearing a dress like those of the adult attendants in pink organza. Thy bride’s gown of Chantilly lace tulle anJk taffeta featured an Em pire waistline with bateau neckline and ballerina-length skirt with 15 lace tiers over tulle. A satin cum merbund ended in a drape in back. Her circular veil was trimmed in bands of Chantilly lace and was at tached to a halo encrusted with pearls and sequins, and she carried an orchid on a^prayerbook The couple and the wedding party greeted guests in the church vesti bule after the service. S. Bailey and Son, Bankers. Mr. Holley was graduated from Clinton High School tnd is a stu dent at the Veterans Training School in Greenville; he is majoring in ra dio and televisions electronics.
