Entertains Employees With Steak Supper On Tuesday evening of the past week Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Thomas entertained employees of the Thom as Jewelry stores here and in Jo anna informally at their cottage on Lake Greenwood. An open fire was burning in the room where the table was laid for a steak supper. Camellias and ta pers added to the attractiveness of the cottage for the occasion Mrs. Earl Rice 1 Is Bridge Hostess Mrs. Earl Rice entertained mem bers of her card club Tuesday aft ernoon at her home on North Hol land Street with a dessert bridge. Camellias and berries with green ery made a -pretty setting for the two tables where a sweet course was served prior to the games. MAXWELL Miss Patricia Gatlin of Gaines ville, Fla., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Obie Sion Gatlin, Sr., De- • Funiak, became the bride of David Brainard Maxwell, son of Mrs. Al : bert Sidney Maxwell of Montreat, N. C., and the late Mr. Maxwell, on Thursday at 4:00 p. m. in the De Funiak Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Neely D. McCarter officiated at the candlelight dou ble ring ceremony. The vows were exchanged in the sanctuary decorated in fall foliage with a background of light tapers * in candelabra. Mrs. A. B. Covell, organist, play ed selections from Bach and Schu berts’ Serenade and accompanied the vocalist, Mrs. Jack R. Gatlin, sister-in-law of the bride, of Atlan ta, Ga. Mrs. Gatlin sang “My Heart Ever Faithful,” Bach, and ”0 Per fect Love,” Barnby. The bride’s sister, Miss Wanda Gatlin of Greensboro, N. C., was the maid of honor. Mrs. Angus An drews, Gainesville, Mrs. William Hayes, Plant City, Mrs. O. S. Gat lin, Jr., sister-in-law of the bride, DeFuniak, and Mrs. Neely McCar ter, sister of the bride, Gaines ville, were bridesmaids. Sidney Maxwell of Manchester, Ga., wj^best man for his brother. The gromsmen included Jack Max well, Gainesville, Jack Gatlin, At lanta, Obie Gatlin, Jr, ’ DeFuniak, and Henry Smith, Moultrie, Ga. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an imported Alen- con candleglow lace over satin. The bodice was made on princess line and featured a portrait decol- letage of scalloped lace and long tapering sleeves. The graceful gor ed skirt terminated into a chapel train. The veil of illusion was held in place by a candleglow satin pill box. She carried a cascade of van- das orchids. The attendants of the bride were identically attired in waltz length emerald chiffon with velveteen .bod ice connecting the empire waist of chiffon. They wore matching'velve teen pill box hats. Their cascades were of bronze fuji chrysanthe mums outlined with autumn leaves and greenery. Mrs. Gatlin selected ice blue over taffeta with matching pink hat nat and gloves." Her corsage was of white carnations. Mrs. Maxwell wore blue lace over taffeta with matching accessories and pink car nations. Immediately folowing the cere mony the reception was held in the church recepfkm room. For a wedding trip to North Caro lina the bride wore an English wool outfit in grey with white and black accessories. After the tfip the cou ple will reside in Hogansville, Ga., where Mr. Maxwell is minister of the Presbyterian Church. The wedding of Miss Gatlin and Mr. Maxwell is of interest to friends here where Mr. Maxwell fronrverly resided a n d attended Fresbyterian College. Gordon Clubs Have General Meet Dec. 9 There will be a general meeting of all garden clubs on Monday after noon, December 9, at 3:30 at the Hampton Avenue School. Mrs. Robert M. Riddle, of Ches ter, district president of the state garden clubs, will present a program on ‘.‘Christmas Ideas.” Mrs. Riddle- will be accompanied by Mrs. Hol- roid, of Chester. * - A social hour will follow the pro gram. Mrs. Dewey Taylor is chair man of the hostess committee. Century Club Studies Arctic Islands Continuing the year’s study of is lands of the North, Mrs. William P. Jacobs read an interesting paper on “Islands of the Arctic” for the De cember meeting of the Study Club held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs.- C. Bynum Betts. Mrs. Jacobs emphasized the stra tegic importance the islands have to day as a crossroads for world com merce and as our nation’s first line of defense.^ UDC DECEMBER MEETING The December meeting of the Stephen D. ARP Circles Have 'White Cross' Program A “White Cross” program was given for the meetings of the circles of the Associate Reformed Presby terian Church on Monday. The afternoon group met at ,the home of Miss Nannie Young Tribble with Miss Margaret Blakely leading the discussion. Others taking part were Mrs R. L. Plaxico, Mrs. Hu bert Todd, Mrs. George Watts Cope land and Mrs. E. B. Sloan. Later the nostess served salad and sweet courses with punch. -Mrs. L.
