LESTER LONGSHORE Correspondent and Representative Mire. James Boutchyard, of Day- ton, Ohio, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Harold Darnell and family for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Delphin Bishop and children, of Knoxville, Tenn., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bishop and sons. Miss Sara Ann Chandler is spending this week in Greenwood with Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Good man. Mr. and Mrs. I. V. Whittle and Mirs. Cecal O’Dell attended the funeral of the former’s brother-in- law, Jesse Smith, in Newberry Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Young visit ed relatives in Abbeville on Sat urday. Miss Donna Gail Fellows returned home with them for a week’s visit. *-■ A1C Marvin Elliott, who has been stationed in Japan, arrived in Joanna last Thursday for a 30- day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Elliott. He will report for duty at Pine Castle in Orlando, Fla., at the end of his leave. Friends of Mrs. Ray Goff, Caro lyn and Ren will be interested to know they are now making their home 'in Sumter. Spending the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Bridges were Mr. and Mrs. Grady Shealey, of Saluda. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Na bors called on Sunday afternoon. ■Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and children spent Saturday in Edge- field with relatives. Week-end. visitors of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Childress were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Simmons. Mr. and Mrs. Rolfe Clark spent Sunday in Greer with the latter’s sister, Mrs. J. W. McKain, and Mr. McKain. *Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Cole and Miss Frances Davenport were week-end guests at Hodge Podge Lodge near Mo neks Comer with A2C C. B. Cole, Jr. turned home with short visit. Little Jackie Bridges will cele brate a birthday August 9. ’ L. J. Brock, Jr., of Rochester, N. Y., is, Visiting his mother, Mrs. L. J. Brock, Sr., for .two weeks Mrs. Emma Higginbotham, of Anderson, is a visitor of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Elliott and family Dr. Wm. J. Carter and children, Billy, Tricda and Ricky, Judy and Elaine Ross, Sue and Jeff O’Dell enjoyed a picnic at Curry’s Lake Saturday. CFO Colie Gruber, Mirs. Gruber and children, of Mobile, Ala., are visiting Mrs. Grubers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lovelace. Mrs. Lovelace, who has been visiting in Mobile, returned to Joanna with them. Visiting during the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Darnell were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hazel, of Greenwood, and Charlie Girk, of Ware Shoals. Cpl. Eddie Fulmer is spending a furlough at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Fulmer. Cpl. Fulmer will report to Oki nawa around the first of Septem ber Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Boyce left on Monday for San Antonio, Texas, after a short visit wijth the formers parents, Mr. and Mts. Gordon Boyce. Mrs. Mittie King and Ren An derson spent the week-end in Co lumbia with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Madden. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Atkins and Derrill, Miss Pat Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur League, Mike and Jill, spent the week-end at Folly Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Gumie Beden- baugh and Sheryl Jean, of Pied mont, were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Bedenbaugh and family. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bennett were joined by MU’, and Mrs. J. W. May, of Ihuon, for a. weeks visit at Elinor Village near Day tona Beach, Fla., recently. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dominick, Ed ith and Furman were Sunday visitors of Mrs. Asa Bowers in Prosperity. Mrs. Ray Goff spent the week end in Sumter with Airman Goff. Tommy Boyce spent last week end at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Guflhie Waits is at home after receiving treatment at Jo anna hospdtal. Arnold Duncan, of Whitmire, received treatment at Joanna hos pital several days last week. Chippy Brawley was dismissed this week following an appendec tomy at Joanna hospital Last Thursday. Tommy Hazel and Steve Serin underwent tonsilectomies at Joan na hospital recently. I. H. Ginn was dismissed from jowing treatment. C. W. Chandler si confined to Joanna hospital for treatment. - 'Mrs. Lena Shaver, of Clinton, was admitted for treatment at Jo anna hospital recently. Mrs. Mattie Brewington of Clin ton, was dismissed -recently fol lowing treatment at Joanna hos pital. Mrs. Mary Simpson underwent minor surgery at Joanna hospital last Monday. Cathy Seawright is confined to Joanna hospital for treatment. Youth Fellowship Meets The Youth Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church held the monthly meeting at the home of Dianne longshore Sunday. ,, The program for the evening was led by Dianne, assisted by John,Earl O’Shields and Jim Ad dison. The topic for the evening was “Reverence for God’s Name.” Refreshments of cookies and punch were served during the social hour. v Methodist Group Mkets The seniors of Epworth Metho dist church held the Fellowship Hour at the home of Miss Brenda O’Dell after the worship service Sunday evening. Appropriate games were enjoy ed on the lawn, with the youths making ice cream. Superintendent of the youth de partment, Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, was surprised with a birthday cake and gift. Refreshments of ice cream and! birthday cake were served at the 1 close of the evening. WomaiiTs Club Moots' 1 " One of the most delightful oc casions of the week was held on last Thursday night at the August meeting of the Joanna Woman’s club at the club house. After the routine business, pre sided over by the president, Mrs. Nathan Brazel, Miss Kit tie Mae Moseley, program chairman, pre sented a very enjoyable program honoring the kitchen committee consisting of Mrs. John Gaskin, Mrs. Helen Bozard, Mrs. Sallie Bridges, Mrs. Belle Willingham, and Mrs. Kathleen League. The ladies were honored as queens wijth the white covered thrones and a large gold colored plaque with “Queens” written with glit- kerchiefs from the members of the club for their outstanding con tribution toward raising funds for the summer trip. Mrs. Dollie Carr and Mrs. Lula j morous and highlights of the trip Mae O’Dell touched on the hu- to New Orleans, with Mrs. Carl Franzen showing movies of points; of interest visited. Mrs. Mary Boyce was welcomed as a new member. Refreshments of pound cake and ice cream were served by the hostesses. W. W. TAYLOR Laurens. Aug. 1.—Walter W. Tayior, 68, died early Wednesday at the Laurens hospital following two years of declining health. ' A native of the Woodruff sec tion of Spartanburg county, ho was the son of the late James and Poly Hudson Taylor. He had made his home in Laurens county for many years and was a retired tex tile employee 1 and a member of Lucas Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving ar his wife, Mrs. Mamie Clem Taylor; two sons. James Taylor, of Wattsville; and John G. Taylor, of Laurens; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond Weath ers, Mrs. Kenneth Elledge, and Mrs. Raymond Martin, all of Lau rens; and Mrs. Joe Mann, of At lanta, Ga.; four brothers, Oscar Taylor, Toy Taylor. Louis Taylor, and Clyde Taylor, all of Wood ruff; two sisters, Mrs. Claude Lunsford and Mrs. Dorroh Lan- ford, both of Woodruff; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
