People You Know Items of Interest Concerning Clinton Residents Mir. and Mrs. Quinton Chap man and little son, John Mason, of Charleston, are spending the week with her mother, Mrs. J. H. Dorman here and the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Chapman, in Mountville. Dr. and Mrs. Judson A. Davis and children spent Sunday in Columbia with the latter’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Kirkland. • Mrs. N. W. McDaniel has* re turned from a several weeks vis it with her daughter, Mrs. W. P. Coker, and Mr. Coker in Ashe ville, N. C. The Cokers and their daughter, Jo Ann, accompanied her home on Sunday. ‘ Don Rhame, student at David son College, Davidson, N. C., will arrive tamarrow to spend the week-end at his home here and to attend the Old South Ball in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Orr, of Ath ens, Ga., are spending the spring holidays here with her parents, Mr .and Mrs. C. W. Anderson. Friends of Mrs. Orr will be inter ested to know she has completed requirements for a degree at the the University of Georgia and will receive her diploma at grad uating exercises in June. l Johnny Nance, of Greenville, was the week-end guest of his aunt, Mrs. Ayliffe R. Mrs. Jones’ father, H«mry H. Wing, of Atlanta, Ga., arrived yesterday for a several days visit. Carroll Hart, student at Geor gia Tech, Atlanta, is spending the spring holidays with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hart, at Joanna. Miss Lillian Hart re sumed her studies Tuesday at Agnes Scott college, Decatur, Ga., after a few days at home. Dr. Marshall W. Brown was the guest speaker on Sunday for two services at the Limestone Presbyterian church in Gaffney. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Floyd, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Floyd and son, John Keister, of Olanta, were week-end guests of Mrs. Floyd's sister, Mrs. Frank Miller. Also guests of Mrs. Miller and Mrs. E. M. Glee Club Gets High Clinton High Girls Rating At Festival _ The Clinton High School Girl’ Glee club received the top rating of 1 at the Western District Mus ic - Festival held in Inman on March 12. The numbers perform ed were f ‘0 Lovely World,” by Harriet Weaver, and “Lift Thine Eyes," from Elijah,’’ by Men delssohn. Of the Vocal soloists who en tered. Thetja Sublett received the only 1 plus rating given to any one in the festival. Barbara Wolf came next with a 1 Ethel Mae Rowe and Betty Jean Ham er received a 2. A rating of 1 represents a per centage of 95 to 100, a superior performance; 2 represents 87 per cent to 95 per cent, a distinctive performance. The solos performed were: "Corals," by Trehame, sung by- Theda Sublett; “Bereeuse,” from “Jocelyn,’ by Go da rd, Barbara Wolf; and Ethel Mae Rowe, “A Little China Figure," by Leoni, Betty Jean Hamer. Tommy Jenkins, of the Joanna schoool, also entered the festival under the direction of Miss Mary Elizabeth Fowler, and was the only boy to receive a rating of 1 with his performance. To Represent Local Chamber Commerce At Spartanburg Meet Clinton Chamber of Commerce Manager George Massey and member Ike Edwards will rep resent the local - chamber as guests of the Spartanburf Cham ber of Commerce at their annual meeting and banquet tonight (Thursday), . Guest speaker will be Herbert V. Kohler, president of Kohler Manufacturing Company, one of the country’s foremost champions of free enterprise.
