Surprise Party
Miss Dessie Jean Roberts was
pleasantly surprised Friday eve
ning with a birthday party at the
Communiyt building.
Several interesting games were
played under the direction of Lin
da Stewart. -
The guests were invited into
the dining room where they were
served a salad course. A beauti
ful birthday cake adorned the
table. About twenty-three guests
attended. Dessie Jean received
a number of lovely gifts which
were opened.
Hostesses were Misses Linda
Stewart, Shirley Hedspeth, Nancy
Hughes and Judy Cole.

the arrival of a son, Richard Wil
liam, on Feb. 18 at the Emory
hospital. Mrs. Campbell is the
former Miss Billy Arnold, of this
city.
Re-Enlists In Army
Jimmy Wooten has re-enlisted
in the army for six years. At the
present he will be stationed at
Fort Jackson. He has just re
turned from a year’s stay in Ger
many. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Wooten.
Birthday Dinner Given

honored their daughter, Judy,
with a birthday dinner on Sun
day, February 19. Those attend

A bountiful dinner was served.
Judy was celebrating her 18th
birthday.
Dawitt Tucker Passes
Dewitt Tucker, 37, died Wed
nesday morning at the Veterans
hospital in Columbia after several
months of declining health.
He was a natiye of Greenville
county but had made his home in
Clinton for ,12 years. He was a
son of Melton Tucker and the late
Agnes Eubanks Tucker. He was
a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Mary Dunaway Tucker, of Clin
ton; one son, Kenneth Dewitt
Tucker; one daughter, "Mary Sue
Tucker, both of the home; his
father and step-mother, Mr. and
Mrs. MeRon Tucker, of Enoree,
Rt. 2; four sdsters, Mrs. Margie
Trammell, of Enoree. Rt. 2; Mrs.
Margaret Lawson, of Cross An
chor; Mrs. Helen Small, of Un
ion, Rt. 4; Mrs. Janie Mae Fowler,
of Greenville; four brothers,
Claude Tucker, of" Spartanburg;
James Tucker, of Atlanta; Aaron
Tucker, of Union, Rt. 4; and Chas.
Tucker, U. S. Army, in Germany.

ed Thursday afternoon at 4:30

poll tax.
Tax books opened October 1, 1956 and remain open
without penalty through December 31, 1956. Taxes
will be collected through April 15, 1957, with penalty-
added, and will go into execution April 15, 1967. The
following penalties will be collected: January, 1 per
cent; February, 2 per cent; March, 3 per cent; and from
April 1 to April 15, 7 per cent.
