THE CLINTON CHRONICLE. ./ THE WOMAN’S Social Events and Club News of Interest Telephone 74 or 495 Thomwell Church < Rites Unite Miss Bennett and Charles Erwin Nalley Miss Joyce Jolene Bennett be came the bride of Charles Erwin Nalley in rites taking place at three o’clock Saturday 'afternoon in the Thornwell Memorial Churdh. • Miss Bennett is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ben nett and a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Duckett, of this city. Mr. Nalley is the son of George Nalley, of Sandy Springs. Dr, M. A. Macdonald perform ed the ceremony. Ushers were Jack Brown, a student at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, and Howard Lu cas, a student at Presbyterian college, both of this city. A program of wedding music was presented by Miss Luva Mc Donald, organist, and Miss Mary Alice Hamm, of this city, a stu dent at the University of South Carolina. Miss Hamm sang ‘‘I Love You Truly” and the “Wed ding Benediction’ ’after the cere mony. Organ selections included the traditional wedding marches. Four seven-branched candela bra and floor baskets of white gladioli and greenery were ar ranged at the altar to form the wedding settings. Miss Yvonne Bennett, of this city, a student at Flora McDonald College, Red Springs, N. C., was her sister’s maid of honor and only attendant. She wore a bal lerina length dress of ice blue and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations. John Dowdle served as best man . The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Dennis Bennett, wore a ballerina length wedding gown of nylon net and satin. The two-tier nylon net skirt over sat in was appliqued in satin. The bodice featured a bolero jacket, Peter Pan collar and long sleeves ending in points over the wrists. She carried a white prayer book topped with an orchid. The bride and groom received congratulations in the vestibule of the church following the rites. For traveling the bride chang ed to an early spring princess dress in blue with black print, a black duster, white hat and dther accessories in black. She wore the orchid from her prayer book. Upon their return from a bed ding trip they are. at home in an apartment on Thornwell street. Mrs. Nalley is a graduate of the Thornwell schools and attended Winthrop college. She is employ ed in the local office of the MARRIED SATURDAY AFTERNOON Entertain For Bride and Groom Entertaining for their brother and his bride, Mr. ^nd Mrs. \V R Padgett, of GreenWood, Mr and Mrs. Sam McCrary of this city,. Mr. and Mrs Claude Finley, of Union, were hosts for a dinner party on Saturday evening in the private dining room of the Hotel Mary Musgrove. Covers were laid for 18 at the supiper table which was adorned with bouquets of daffodils and a tracery of forsythia. Place cards held miniature corsages and tix>u- tonnaires. A three course turkey dinner' was served. After dinner dancing was enjoyed Mrs. Earl Pitts Feted With Luncheon Honoring her son’s bride, Mrs. Earl Pitts, Mrs. W Roy Pitts en tertained with a luncheon a» "the Hotel Mary Musgrove on Wednes day of the past week. Guests were members of the two families in cluding several out-of-town visi tors. The long banquet table was beautifully arranged with place cards holding miniature bouquets, a centerpiece of white gladioli mri snapdragons, and at intervals with silver wedding' bells from which wide white satin ribbon streamers extended A hot course luncheon was served. He has just received his discharge from the armed forces, having recently re turned from eighteen months du- ty*tn Germany] He is herdsman for the Thornwell dairy. A number of out of town guests were here for the rites, including relatives of the bride from Sum ter and Laurens, the groom’s father and other relatives from Anderson. Dessert Bridge Given For Club A dessert bridge was given by- Mrs. E M. Felknor, Jr , on Thurs day afternoon for members of her club. Following the serving of a»sweet course a number of games, were enjoyed with Mrs. Joe McGee and Mrs. Fred Pitts as score w-inners. Daffodils, early blooming shrubs and potted greens were used in decorations in the card ‘rodms. Luncheon Given For Act aeon Club' On Friday at 12:30 at the Mary Musgrove Hotel Mrs. T. D. Cope land was hostess to members of the Actaean club for luftoheon. Place cards marked the places for sixteen guests at the long prettily appointed table, whieh was adorned with daffodils. A three-course hot luncheon was served. Joint Hostesses For Bridge Party Mrs. F-rank Sherrill and Mrs. James. Macdonald jointly enter tained friends for bridge on Thurs day afternoon at the Sherrill home on the Jacobs highway Gladioli and daffodils made a pretty setting for the tables ar ranged in the receiving rooms of the home When cards were laid aside a salad course was enjoyed Priies for bridge went to Mrs. T m s Wolfe, Mrs. Hugh Jacobs and Mrs. Murphey Timmerman. A lair entertained with a bridge party at her home on Wednesday afternoon of the past week. Mrs Wilkes and Lt. Wilkes were visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilkes here, enroute from Fort Belvoir, Va , to his new assignment at Fort Leon ard Wood, Mo. McMillan and Mrs Arnold M. Cannon were hostesses to friends for five tables of bridge Thursday afternoon at the home of the former.
