Easter
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Easter, of
Clinton, announce the birth of a
son born at Joanna hospital on
February 9.
Bake Sale
The'Joanna Worpan’s club will
sponsor a bake sale at Joanna
stores on Saturday evening, the
16th, boginning at 8:00 o’clock.
Proceeds will go towards the
club’s summer trip and all mem
bers are urged to participate.
Rally
A .rally sponsored by the young
Peoples Fellowship club will be
held at 7:45 p. m. Saturday, Feb
ruary 16, at the Church of God on
the Columbia-Greenville high
way.I
The young people of the follow
ing areas are invited: Clinton,
Laurdns.'Whitmire, New’berry and
Joanna. .
The program will consist ot quiz
teams (one team from each town)
competing for a banner.
Among other things planned will
be special music, group singing and
a six'aker of the evening. The
speaker will be Rev. Fred Afam,
member of the faculty at Bob
Jones university.. Rev. Afam is

The 10 and ( 11 year old Girl
Scouts enjoyed a Valentine party
at the home of Rosjwrtary Abrams
last week.
Mrs. Leroy Couch, Mrs. James
Knight and Mrs. E. C Abrams led
the games and assisted in serving
Valentine games and dancing con
tests were the highlights of the
evening Refreshments of, sand
wiches, potato chips, cookies and
iced drinks were served. To close
the party Valentine were exchang
ed by the 14 Scouts present.

The members of the Woman’s
club sponsored a Valentine party
for the folk at the Laurens Coun
ty home on Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. Nathan Brazel. president, led
the recreation of games, singing
for the afternobn. Little Miss Sue
ODell gave a reading befare the
beautifully decorated box was pre
sented with Valentines to each
one and a Valentine box of candy
presented each honored guest.
Refreshments '-of red lemonade,
cookies and potato chips were
served.

On Sunday Mrs. Thomas Wins
delightfully surprised her husband
with a birthday "dinner at their
home near Truckers Inn. Those at
tending from Joanna were Mr.

Jerry Hall Celebrates Birthday
Jerry Hall celebrated his 14th
birthday with a party at Joanna
club house on last Friday night.
The party room was gaily deco

records for dancing
The birthday cake was frosted
in white with blue decorations.
Refreshments of sandwiches,
pickles, potato- chips, cake, candy
hearts and iced drinks were served

The ladies of the Presbyterian
church held their February meet
ing at the home of Mrs. J. M. Bo

the meejing. Mrs. J. K Waits gave
the Bible lesson from Matt 6:5-15;
Luke 4:14-21, with the thoughts

poll tax.
Tax books opened October 1, 1956 and remain open
without penalty (through December 31, 1956. Taxes
will be collected through April 15, 1957, with penalty
added, and will go into execution April 15, 1957. The
following penalties wil| be collected: January, 1 per
cent: February, 2 her cent; March, 3 per cent; and from
April 1 to April 15, 7 per cept.

will be a cake sale at Joanna

was brought out with Valentines
and gifts for the Joanna sisters
being remembered.
